Open-source first

Capital One’s Open Source Program Office, which launched in 2015, made our open source-first approach to software development part of our culture. Operating in a highly regulated industry, we have the institutional advantage of being seasoned in deftly navigating the challenges related to compliance and governance. We do this while still fostering an open environment and ensuring the developer experience for using open source is seamless and low-friction.

Contributing to 100+ projects

Capital One teams have released more than 25 open source projects and made more than 2,000 contributions to approximately 100 different projects.  And now our open source projects are available to anyone industry-wide.

Investing in the community

To help keep open source sustainable, we sponsor the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, Python Software Foundation, FINOS, Apache, and more.

Duane O'Brien

Director of Engineering, Open Source Program Office
"Companies that want to become tech-first leaders will have to embrace the evolving open source AI landscape...and the best way to benefit from open source is to be in the game—contributing to community-driven projects and helping to build new features."
