How to earn rewards

Capital One generally offers three types of rewards credit cards: cash back, miles, and points.

Depending on your rewards card, you can earn a percentage of cash back or miles per dollar spent on net purchases (purchases minus any credits or returns).

Things you should know about earning rewards:

  • There’s no limit to the amount of rewards you can earn, and they won’t expire for the life of the account.

  • Accounts must be in good standing at time of earning  rewards, including bonuses. Accounts that are not in good standing (e.g., suspended, restricted, delinquent, or otherwise in default or closed) may have different redemption options or may lose any undeemed rewards.

  • You may lose your rewards if you close your Capital One account.

  • Cash advances, balance transfers and checks used to access your account are not considered purchases and will not earn rewards.

  • Not all Capital One accounts are eligible to send and receive rewards transfers.

How to redeem rewards

Depending on your rewards credit card, you can redeem rewards for travel, cash back, gift cards, and dining and entertainment. Your redemption options vary by card. For example: Some cards let you redeem miles or points for cash back.

Things you should know about redeeming rewards:

  • To redeem rewards for all available redemption options (e.g. gift cards, an account credit or check), accounts must be in good standing.  Accounts that are not in good standing (e.g., suspended, restricted, delinquent, or otherwise in default) or closed may have different redemption options or may lose any undeemed rewards.

  • Remember to keep your mailing address up to date on your account profile.

  • While all purchases made by an account user (i.e., the primary account holder, authorized users or account managers) on the account will earn rewards, not all account users are eligible to redeem rewards or have access to all redemption options.
