If your payment date is fast approaching, here are some things you can do to help pay your bill, and help you get back on track.
1. Review Your Income and Expenses
It may not be easy, but if you can reduce some monthly expenses, it could free up some money that can go toward paying at least the minimum amount due. If you're unable to pay the minimum amount, then determine how much you can afford to pay and start with that.
2. Work with Your Credit Card Company Right Away
When you can't pay the minimum amount due on your credit card bill, reach out to the credit card company as soon as possible. Explain why you're not able to pay the minimum amount and discuss how much you can afford to pay. Depending on your situation, the credit card company may be able to work with you and move your payment due date.
3. Contact a Reputable Credit Counselor
Credit counseling organizations are designed to help individuals learn ways to manage their money and expenses. Looking at your full financial picture, a credit counselor can offer personalized advice on budgeting as well as credit and debt management. But do your homework—some credit counseling organizations charge fees before they settle your debts, or make promises that your debts will go away.
