How do I apply for a business checking account?
The first step is to fill out this form. If you need to come into a branch to complete the account opening process, we will let you know. Sometimes in the account opening process you’ll need to visit your local branch to fund the account and sign the signature cards.

How long does it take for my account to be open online, and when will I have access?
Your online access should be available within a few hours after opening an account.
How can I avoid incurring the monthly services fees on a checking account?
For Basic Checking customers, the $15 monthly fee can be waived with a $2,000 minimum 30- or 90-day average balance. For Unlimited Checking customers, the $35 monthly fee can be waived with $25,000 minimum 30- or 90-day average balance.
How do I order checks?
Checkbooks can be ordered by logging into your Capital One account. After selecting the account you want to order checks for, you can select “Account Services and Settings” and “Order Checks” to place your checkbook order.
Are my deposits with Capital One insured by the FDIC?

What is a merchant account?
A merchant service account allows you to process non-cash transactions from your customers. Capital One has partnered with Worldpay® from FIS, a leading debit and credit card processor, to offer you flexible payment acceptance solutions.
What kind of credit and debit cards can I accept?
You can accept major credit cards—Visa®, MasterCard®, Discover®, American Express®—as well as gift and loyalty cards. Other options include EMV, contactless, PayPal and more.
When will I receive funds in my bank account from the credit card transactions?
Most funds are available the next day.

What type of POS terminal do I need?
You have options when it comes to POS terminals. It all comes down to the payment options you want to accept and how you want to accept them. How long will it take to begin accepting card payments?
Chances are, if you’re a small business with only one location and a terminal, this process will be quick. If you’re a larger business with lots of locations and terminals, your ramp-up time may take longer. Also, you may be able to set up payment processing more quickly if you choose a mobile processing application versus a traditional countertop POS system. With an iQ virtual terminal, you can start accepting payments immediately.
Can internationally based merchants open a merchant account?
No. Only merchants located in the U.S. can process transactions with a Capital One Merchant Services account.
What if I need to terminate my payment processing contract early?
You may be assessed a fee if you end your agreement early, depending on your contract. If you think there's a chance that you'll need to end your credit card processing early, make sure you check the contract carefully before you lock into an agreement.
