What to do if your flight is delayed or disrupted

Find out if your trip is delayed, disrupted or changed, through Capital One Travel or directly through the airline.

Changes can happen from time to time when an airline has to adjust its schedule, route or aircraft. Capital One Travel doesn’t have any influence on flight schedules. However, we can help you stay in the know about any updates to your itinerary.

Airlines and other travel partners are continually reviewing and updating their policies on schedule changes. Capital One Travel will notify you about flight cancellations or airline-imposed schedule changes by email. If you receive an email about a schedule change, it may require a response from you.

The email may provide you with alternative flights that you can choose to accept. If you have more than one option, you will need to choose your preferred flight. If you do not respond with your selected preference, a schedule change may be accepted on your behalf. In this case, you will receive an email letting you know if a change was accepted.

It’s important to review the schedule change details and follow the directions in the email. Make sure you monitor your spam folder–sometimes emails can end up in there by mistake.

If the airline makes a last-minute schedule change or cancellation within 72 hours of your departure, Capital One Travel will attempt to reach you by phone and email. However, if you have already checked in to your flight, any changes must be managed directly through the airline.

Changes to flights are fairly commonplace. Here are some tips and policies to consider so you can manage airline schedule changes with minimal interruption to your travel plans:

  • Once the schedule change is complete, any future changes to your flight will be subject to the original ticket rules and restrictions.

  • If you paid for a specific seat or other upgrade for your original flight, you need to contact the airline directly to make sure these transfer to your new flight(s).

  • Low-cost carriers—like Spirit Airlines or Ryanair—manage their own bookings and are responsible for contacting you when your flight schedule changes.

  • If needed, you can find both the airline confirmation code and Capital One Travel confirmation code in the confirmation email from Capital One Travel or by signing in to Capital One Travel and going to My Trips.

  • Find steps on how to navigate to My Trips here.

Check Your Flight Status for Disruptions and Delays

  • If you’re at the airport and your flight is delayed or canceled, talk to an agent at the airline counter right away.

  • If the airline agent can’t help you, the Capital One Travel support team would be happy to assist you by calling 844-422-6922

  • Please note that Capital One Travel can only process changes or refunds authorized by the airline.

  • If your flight is canceled due to weather or current events, the airline may waive change fees for a limited time.

Always check your flight’s status before you leave for the airport, when you arrive and while you’re waiting to board. Last-minute changes can happen because of bad weather or mechanical issues. Many airline and airport websites offer ways to sign up to receive flight status text alerts for close to real-time notifications.
