Hiring Veteran Talent at Capital One
Through resources and support systems, Capital One helps veterans smooth the transition from service to civilian life
Today, on National Hire a Veteran Day, Capital One proudly honors the service, sacrifice and unmatched skills of veterans across the country. As thousands of servicemembers transition from military service to civilian life each year, we’re committed to helping them find not just a job, but a meaningful new chapter.
Veterans bring with them a powerful combination of discipline, leadership, collaboration and resilience – traits that both enrich our workplace and drive results.
From Uniform to Workforce
Leaving behind a structured military life can be challenging. In fact, nearly a third of veterans say returning to civilian life is a difficult process. At Capital One, we aim to make this transition smoother and help veterans and military spouses navigate their next steps through our dedicated hiring programs, tailored career development resources and internal support community.
Dedicated Hiring Programs for Veterans and Spouses
Capital One actively recruits veterans and military spouses through several year-round initiatives, including our partnership with Hiring Our Heroes, a program that offers real-world experience and career-building opportunities.
Since 2019, Capital One has welcomed participants into our Corporate Fellowship Program – a hands-on, 11-week placement for transitioning service members and military spouses, with the opportunity for full-time hire at the end. Fellows are matched with open roles based on their unique strengths and interests, spending four days a week immersed in meaningful projects and one day a week sharpening skills like resume writing, interviewing and professional networking with the Chamber of Commerce.
Support That Lasts Beyond the First Day
Once veterans join Capital One, they’re far from alone. Through Salute, our Military Business Resource Group, nearly 6,000 veterans, military spouses and allies find camaraderie, guidance and a platform to give back.
Salute has local chapters across the country and supports:
-
Peer mentorship and onboarding
-
Career navigation and leadership development
-
Community volunteerism with groups like Stop Soldier Suicide, Patriot Paws, and 9/11 Day Meal Packs
And for new hires, our Military New Hire Transition Program ensures that veterans and their families find their footing quickly, utilizing the first 90 days to navigate benefits, Capital One culture, performance expectations and career planning.
"Veterans are incredibly resilient and mission-focused," said Dave Bann, Vice President of Operations for Velocity Black at Capital One and United States Marine Corps veteran. "Their adaptability and creative problem solving are traits that Capital One values in its associates."
He adds, "Capital One's mission to Change Banking for Good also resonates deeply with veterans who started their careers in public service."
