Important Changes Are Coming to Capital One Travel
Here’s what you need to know about the transition to the all-new Capital One Travel
If you can’t wait to get back to traveling, you’re not alone. And like many people, you also might have some questions about using existing flight credits, how to book new travel and more.
Capital One Travel is launching a smarter travel-booking experience with a new travel tech partner, Hopper, this fall.
So what do you need to know about managing your bookings during the transition? Keep reading to find out how to manage your existing bookings and how to use your flight credits. You’ll also learn more about what’s to come with the new Capital One Travel this fall.
When Is This Change Happening?
The current travel-booking experience will be going away in the coming weeks, and an all-new travel-booking experience will be launching this fall. During the transition, you’ll still be able to manage your existing travel reservations. But you'll only be able to book new travel on Capital One Travel if you have existing travel credits. If you don't have existing travel credits, you'll temporarily be unable to book new reservations until the updated travel-booking experience launches in the fall.
What Happens to My Existing Reservation?
There won’t be any changes to your existing reservation because of the transition to the new travel-booking experience. You’ll still be able to view and manage your trip by navigating to the previous Capital One Travel My Trips page or calling the number on your confirmation email. But keep in mind that call centers are busier than usual and wait times are long.
What if I Planned to Book a Trip Soon?
In the coming weeks, you’ll be temporarily unable to make new reservations through Capital One Travel until the new travel-booking experience launches this fall—unless you have existing flight credits.
If you plan to book travel in the meantime, remember you can still book through another travel site and redeem your rewards for any travel purchase. Plus, you’ll still have other great ways to redeem your rewards. To see your rewards options, log in to your Capital One account.
If I Have a Flight Credit, How Do I Book a New Trip With It?
Many airlines issued flight credits during the COVID-19 pandemic for canceled flights. If you have an outstanding flight credit with any of the following airlines, you may be able to book a new trip online via the previous Capital One Travel, in the My Trips section:
- Air Canada.
- Alaska Airlines.
- American Airlines.
- Delta Air Lines.
- Hawaiian Airlines.
- United Airlines.
If you have a flight credit from a cancellation not related to COVID-19, you can book a new trip online for all airlines except Aer Lingus and Turkish Airlines. If you’re unable to book a new trip online, you can contact Capital One Travel at 844-527-6779. Keep in mind that call centers are busier than usual and wait times are long. For faster service, it helps to have the Trip ID from your confirmation email ready when you call.
How to Use a Flight Credit Online
If you want to use a flight credit to book a trip online with Capital One Travel, just follow these two simple steps:
- Sign in to the previous Capital One Travel. Then, select “My Trips.”
- Once you’re on the My Trips page, select “Book Using Credit” to schedule your new travel plans.
And for details on when your credit expires, refer to the airline policy.
What if I Need to Make Changes or Cancel My Trip During the Transition?
You’ll still be able to make changes or cancel your trip during the transition to the new Capital One Travel. If you need to change or cancel your trip, you can visit the My Trips section on Capital One Travel. And you can learn more about how to cancel or rebook your trip online.
You can also call Capital One Travel at 844-527-6779 to speak with a representative and make changes to your reservation. But keep in mind that call centers are busier than usual and wait times are long. So it’s recommended that you try making changes online before calling. For faster service, it helps to have the Trip ID from your confirmation email ready when you call.

Will I Need To Do Anything Different To Be Able to Access the New Travel-Booking Experience?
Access to the new travel-booking experience will be a standard feature of your card. And there will be no changes to your credit card as a result of this new experience.
Going forward, you’ll need to have an online account to make new reservations with Capital One Travel. Once the new travel-booking experience is live and you have an online account, you can make new bookings online or by contacting Capital One Travel by phone.
If you don’t already have a username and password, follow these steps to set up an online account:
- Set up online access on Capital One’s website.
- Enter your personal information in the fields provided.
- Select a username and password for your account.
- Now you’re all set to travel once the new travel-booking experience launches!
And if you already have an online account, your username and password will work with the new Capital One Travel booking experience, so you don’t need to do anything!
