Paze vs. other digital payment tools: How it compares

Paze is an online checkout solution offered by participating credit unions and banks, including Capital One. But with so many digital ways to pay available, you may be wondering how Paze compares to other options.

Learn more about Paze and what makes it different from Zelle®, PayPal® and other digital payment services.

What you’ll learn:

  • Paze isn’t a traditional third-party digital wallet—it’s a way to check out online, offered by banks and credit unions for their customers.

  • Unlike some digital payment tools, you don’t need to download a separate app, create a new account or manually add your cards in order to use Paze.

  • To check out online with Paze, enter the email address associated with your participating bank or credit union, and all your eligible cards will be accessible.

  • Paze and Zelle® serve different purposes—Paze is for checkout when shopping online, whereas Zelle® is for sending money to friends and family.

An overview of Paze

Paze provides quick access to your eligible debit and credit cards from participating financial institutions in one place. It saves you the hassle of manually entering your card number during online checkout. Plus, Paze provides added security through tokenization, which means that your actual card number isn’t shared with the merchant.

You don’t need to set up a third-party account or download an app to use Paze. To use Paze, simply enter the email address you use with your banking institution(s) when checking out online at a participating merchant. Then select the card you’d like to pay with and complete your transaction.

Paze vs. PayPal

Both Paze and PayPal are online checkout solutions, but they differ in how they’re set up and used. You can use PayPal for several purposes, like making peer-to-peer (P2P) payments, and it allows users to link bank accounts and fund transactions in different ways.

Paze takes a more streamlined approach to online checkout. Instead of requiring a separate third-party account, Paze is integrated with participating banks, so there’s no need to download an app or manually add payment methods. And with Paze, your eligible cards are preloaded automatically, so you don’t need to manually add your cards like you do with PayPal.

Paze vs. Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay

Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay are digital wallets that work with their associated mobile devices. They can be used when making purchases online, just like Paze. But you can also use them in stores by tapping your phone to pay at point-of-sale (POS) terminals.

With Paze, you don’t have to add payment cards to your wallet—eligible cards are automatically accessible when you check out using the email address associated with your online banking account(s). But to use these other digital wallets, you would first need to add your payment card information.

Paze vs. Zelle®

Paze and Zelle® have different primary functions. Paze is a digital wallet to use when checking out online at participating merchants, whereas Zelle® is primarily used for making P2P payments. P2P payments are generally between two people who already know and trust each other (friends or family members, for instance), while online shopping transactions occur on merchant websites.

Zelle® payments occur between users’ bank accounts—an eligible bank account is required to use it. Paze, on the other hand, works with eligible credit and debit cards.
