Meet Dominique Crenn, owner and chef at Atelier Crenn

Chef Dominique Crenn has been a champion for female chefs in the culinary world since opening her first restaurant, Atelier Crenn, in 2011. Since then, she’s opened two more restaurants—Petit Crenn and Bar Crenn—all of which are in San Francisco. Her food is a modern expression of fine French cuisine, focused on artistry and craft. Crenn is the first female chef in the United States to receive three Michelin stars. Additionally, she won the James Beard Foundation’s Best Chef Award: San Francisco in 2018.

Throughout her career, Crenn has forged a path for women in the culinary world. Encouraged by a strong community of female chefs in the San Francisco region, Crenn continues to have an impact on female chefs in the Bay area.

Meet Erick Williams, owner and chef at Virtue

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, chef Erick Williams of Virtue stocked the cooler at his restaurant with free groceries for his staff, offered forgivable loans, and fed frontline hospitality workers. As one of Chicago’s best chefs, Williams has placed community and hospitality at the forefront of his career. In 2020, he was named Chicagoan of the Year, and he has hosted several James Beard Foundation dinners at Virtue, including a Taste America® event presented by Capital One that was held exclusively for cardholders.

Virtue offers seasonal, farm-to-table Southern food with a fine-dining approach. The restaurant also hosts community events and bespoke dinners featuring other prominent chefs. Williams is a community leader in the historic Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, and the team at Virtue have come to cherish the role the restaurant plays in the community.

Meet Angel Barreto, executive chef at Anju

Executive chef of Anju, Angel Barreto prepares homestyle Korean cuisine in the heart of the nation’s capital. Barreto has been recognized as one of Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs in America, and also received a 2020 James Beard Semi-Finalist nomination and 2020 Rising Culinary Star of the Year (RAMMY) nomination.

At Anju, Barreto focuses on farm-to-table and sustainable cooking. He has partnered with DC Greens to help create a more equitable food system and works in partnership with The Well to grow food directly for the community.
