How to Dispute a Merchant Charge

Talk to the merchant

After you've double-checked the charge and you're ready to dispute it, we recommend that you first contact the merchant (unless you think the charge is fraudulent, then please contact us at 1-800-CAPITAL (1-800-227-4825)). Many customers are able to work out their disputes directly with the merchant.

Give us details

Please submit specific details about your dispute within 60 days of the date on the statement containing the disputed charge. Information we will need:

  • Your name
  • Account number
  • The dollar amount disputed
  • A description of the dispute

With detailed and accurate information, we're able to build a better case for your claim. If we need any additional information, we'll be in touch.

Let us investigate

Our Dispute Investigators will get to work as soon as we have all your information. We have to wait until a final decision is made before we can issue a permanent credit, but we will review your case to determine if a temporary credit is appropriate. Typically, you will receive a final decision on your dispute within 2 complete billing cycles (up to 90 days).

Get results

If the dispute is resolved in your favor, any temporary credit we gave you when you first lodged your dispute will become permanent. If it's not resolved in your favor, we may have to re-bill you.
