Frequently asked questions

Will my credit card payment due dates remain the same?

Your credit card due date will likely stay the same. For some customers, we will change your due date cycle to avoid technical issues. If your due date changes, we'll notify you by letter or email, and you'll also see it in your first monthly statement.

If you have multiple credit card accounts, please note they may be moving at different times. Please pay careful attention to your payment due dates to ensure no payments get missed.

Will primary cardholders receive a new card?

No, primary cardholders will not receive a new card. Primary cardholders can continue to use their card, now and after your account moves to Capital One. Additionally, places where a primary cardholder has their current 16-digit card number stored online will continue to work.

Will authorized users and joint account holders receive a new card?

Yes. Authorized users and joint account holders will receive a new card with their own unique 16-digit card number, mailed to the primary cardholder. We will let the primary cardholder know when the new cards are on their way. Until then, authorized users and joint account holders can continue using their current card.

Will my credit card rewards redemption options remain the same?

New rewards redemption options will be available with Capital One:

  • Miles cardholders may apply rewards for gift card redemptions.
  • Discover cash rewards cardholders will be able to redeem rewards to cover recent purchases made with your card.

Some of your rewards redemption options will change, including:

  • Rewards may continue to be redeemed for gift cards with at least 5% added value, and with a new minimum redemption amount of $25.
  • Automatic statement credit redemption is still available, but you will need to re-enroll your preferences in the Capital One website.

Some rewards redemption options will no longer be available after your account moves to Capital One

  • Rewards cannot be applied toward your minimum payment. You will be able to apply rewards to your account balance as a statement credit through the Redeem for cash option.
  • Pay with Rewards with Apple Pay is not available with Capital One.

For more details about rewards redemption options, reference Your Rewards Program Terms & Conditions that will arrive by email or mail, if they haven't already.

Will my Discover credit card change to a Capital One branded credit card?

No. You’ll keep your Discover credit card and rewards. The Discover brand and network are not going away. Once we set up your credit card account with Capital One, you'll manage it using the Capital One website and app.

Have another Discover account?

You’ll receive more info from us about each Discover account you have. Keep in mind that if you have multiple accounts, they may not move to Capital One at the same time.
