Account settings and details

Will my credit card have an annual fee?

No. You will continue enjoying your Discover card benefits with no annual fee.

Will my credit card's APR remain the same?

You will receive Account Terms by email or mail, if you haven't already, alongside other important information from Capital One that outlines your APR—that's the best place to look because APR varies from cardholder to cardholder.

Will this change impact my credit score?

No. This change won't be reported as a new account, and your account open date will appear as the same date currently reported on your credit file. The credit bureaus will continue to receive updates based on your ongoing account performance.

Will this change be reported in my credit report?

This change won't be reported as a new account, and your account open date will appear as the same date currently reported on your credit file. The info previously reported to the credit bureaus will be updated with the name "Discover by Capital One" or "Capital One" (this name may be abbreviated), and the credit bureaus will continue to receive updates based on your ongoing account performance.

Even if your credit monitoring service alerts you because of the name change, your account info and open date stay the same.

Authorized users & joint account holders

Will authorized users and joint account holders receive a new card?

Yes. Authorized users and joint account holders will receive a new card with their own 16-digit card number once their account moves to Capital One. We will let the primary cardholder know when the new cards are on their way. Until then, users can continue using their current card.

Why will authorized users and joint account holders receive new cards, with unique card numbers?

Capital One issues unique 16-digit card numbers to every cardholder on the account. A unique 16-digit card number for authorized users and joint account holders gives primary cardholders more control by making it easy to track purchases by cardholder, lock individual cards and keep tabs on each cardholder’s spending. While each cardholder has a unique 16-digit card number, each card is still linked to the same primary cardholder’s account, including all transactions, balances and rewards.

Will authorized user's and joint account holder's cards still be linked to the primary cardholder's account?

Yes. Authorized user and joint account holder cards will continue to be linked to the primary cardholder’s account. All transactions will appear on the primary cardholder’s statement.

Will there be any impacts to how authorized users earn rewards or the account rewards balance?

No. Rewards earn rates will remain the same and existing Discover card rewards balances will be carried over as part of the move to Capital One. Rewards earned by authorized users and joint account holders will continue to be added to the account rewards balance.

Digital wallets

Will my credit card continue to work with digital wallets?

You will be able to continue using Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, and PayPal. Recurring subscriptions made with Apple Pay may need to be re-established.

New cards must be updated in your digital wallet. Note that Apple Pay no longer supports rewards or detailed transaction info. While existing Garmin Pay and Click to Pay setups will remain active, new enrollments will no longer be supported.

Which digital wallets can I add my credit card to?

You can add your card to Google Pay, Apple Pay, PayPal, and Samsung Pay. Discover cards are not yet available to add to the Paze digital wallet, but that is coming soon.

If you want to add your card to Amazon.com, you need to do it at Amazon, not at Capital One. You won't be able to use Amazon's Palm Pay capability.

Can I generate a virtual card number for my credit card?

After your account is ready with Capital One, eligible cardholders can create virtual cards using the Capital One website and app. Please note that in some cases, you may not have access to your full credit line until your physical card is activated. Virtual card numbers are not available for debit cards and some credit cards.

Cardholders who previously enabled virtual card numbers will be able to access Google Pay virtual card numbers for 45 days. After this period, only cardholders who have verified their identity with the Capital One website and app will continue to have access. During this process, you may temporarily lose access to your autofill virtual card numbers.

Why did I receive a communication informing me that my credit card digital wallet terms and conditions are changing?

As a digital wallet user, you accepted terms and conditions from Discover to add your card to Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay or Garmin Pay. When your account moves to Capital One, your terms will change. You can find the Capital One digital wallet terms and conditions here: Capital One Mobile Payments Terms & Conditions and Capital One Google Pay User Terms.

If you want to stop using your digital wallet, you can opt out by deleting your card from the digital wallet.
