Do I need to bring an ID to the store?

Yes, bring your ID. Some stores may ask for your photo ID to verify your transaction if you’re adding a large amount.

The following IDs are accepted:

U.S. State-issued Driver's License or Learner's Permit (including Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands)
 State Issued Non-Driver ID
 U.S. Military ID (includes Common Access Card issued by the Department of Defense)
 U.S. Passport (book or card)

Kids without IDs should bring a parent or legal guardian with them to add cash. The adult on the account can show their ID instead to verify the transaction.

How do I add cash in store?

Accepted Answer

Visit any participating store nationwide, such as Walgreens, CVS, Kroger Family of Stores and 7-Eleven. Note that this is not available at any CVS Pharmacy® at Target stores.

In your Capital One app, select add cash in store and enter the amount you’d like to add, up to $999 per transaction, $1,500 a day and $5,000 a month. You can add cash up to 10 times a month.

Generate your barcode. For your security, each barcode can only be used once, and it’ll expire after 30 minutes.

Tell the store’s cashier you'd like to add cash to your eligible account, then show them the barcode. The cashier may ask to view your photo ID.

Give your cash to the cashier, and they'll give you a receipt. Keep your receipt until the money’s in your account.

Your money will typically be available right away, and you'll receive an email confirmation once the transaction is complete. You'll see the deposit in your recent transactions within 1 business day.

Where can I see my transactions—and how soon will my money be available?

You'll see your transaction in the Recent Transactions section of your eligible checking or savings account—and your money will be available in your account within minutes.

How does the barcode work when I add cash in store?

Accepted Answer

Each time you start a new transaction to add cash in store with the Capital One Mobile app, you’ll be issued a new, unique barcode. For security purposes, the barcode only stays active for 30 minutes.

If your barcode times out while you’re in the app, you can easily create a new one.
 If you close out of the app during the 30 minutes, you can retrieve your barcode by signing in and pressing View Barcode within the add cash in store experience.
 If you entered the wrong amount, you can cancel and create a new barcode.

You need internet access to create your barcode, and the barcode must be visible through your Capital One Mobile app on your smartphone. (To protect against fraud, the transaction will not go through if you show a screenshot of the barcode to the cashier.)

Is this a secure way to add cash to my account?

The ability to add cash in store is built directly into the Capital One Mobile app, meaning you can expect the same level of security you’ve always enjoyed when banking with the app. Plus, you don't have to share account information to add cash—just show your barcode to the cashier.

Remember that once the transaction is finalized and you see the funds added to your balance, your money is FDIC-insured up to allowable limits. If you have any issues, we’ll review video footage of your transaction and examine what happened.

How much can I add when I add cash in store?

For each eligible checking or savings account, add up to $1,500 a day and $5,000 a month. You can add cash up to 10 times a month. There’s a $1.00 minimum to make a transaction. Coins and dollar bills are both accepted.

What if I change my mind after the transaction is complete?

You won’t be able to cancel your transaction or withdraw money from the participating store once the transaction is complete. You can, however, withdraw the money from an ATM once the transaction’s been completed.
