A bold new era for Capital One Arena in our hometown
Beyond the arena, Capital One's long-term investment in the Washington region extends to small business and affordable housing

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Capital One and Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) announced the next chapter for Capital One Arena, extending their long-term naming rights partnership and deepening Capital One’s investment in a region where more than 32,000 associates live, work and volunteer. As the arena undergoes a transformation, the partnership connects to Capital One’s broader effort to drive economic opportunity– strengthening downtown Washington, supporting local businesses and fueling long-term vitality across the DMV.
“Capital One has called the Washington region home for over three decades, and we remain deeply committed to investing in its future,” said Andy Navarrete, EVP, Head of Global Enterprise Affairs. “Capital One Arena is a cornerstone of D.C.’s economic and cultural vibrancy, and we’re thrilled to extend our partnership with Monumental. By pairing major projects like the Capital One Arena revitalization with broader investments in affordable housing, local nonprofits and community partners, we can help ensure the entire region thrives.”
This commitment supports the continued vitality of downtown Washington by creating a destination that brings people together while generating lasting economic impact for local businesses and residents.
Capital One’s commitment to the Washington region
Across the Washington area, the bank deploys capital and associate talent to address long-term community needs, including:
-
Creating stable neighborhoods: Issued over $7.2 billion last year in community development financing—supporting economic development, community services and the creation or preservation of over 31,000 affordable housing units—and maintained a long-standing credit partnership with Pathways to Housing DC to cover direct housing costs for clients experiencing homelessness.
-
Driving economic mobility: Sustained a decade-long partnership with Building Bridges Across the River, driving economic mobility for Ward 8 residents and small businesses east of the Anacostia River.
-
Mobilizing people and capital: Contributed more than $17.2 million to regional organizations in 2025 alone. Capital One associates also logged nearly 36,000 volunteer and pro bono hours, supporting key partners like Capital Area Food Bank, So Others Might Eat (SOME), Latino Economic Development Center, and Washington Area Community Investment Fund.
These combined efforts reflect Capital One’s commitment to building thriving communities across the region and empowering the local workforce that keeps the nation’s capital running every day.
A new chapter for Capital One Arena
The partnership includes a long-term naming rights agreement and establishes Capital One as a Founding Partner of the transformed arena. Scheduled for completion ahead of the 2027-28 NBA and NHL seasons, the transformation will modernize the fan experience with redesigned concourses, enhanced food and beverage offerings, new gathering spaces, expanded entrances, and improved connections throughout the venue. The arena will host approximately 250 events each year, including Capitals, Wizards, Georgetown men's basketball, and select Mystics games; concerts, family entertainment, and upcoming NCAA basketball and hockey championships.
Capital One cardholders will continue to enjoy exclusive benefits at Capital One Arena. Beginning in fall 2027, a new dedicated cardholder entrance will provide convenient access for every arena event, expanding a benefit previously available only during Capitals and Wizards games. Additional customer experiences and offerings will be announced in the future.
“Through strategic partnerships, we aim to deliver meaningful benefits and exclusive access for our cardholders,” said Byron Daub, Vice President, Sponsorships and Experiential Marketing at Capital One. “This next chapter for Capital One Arena brings even greater experiences to fans and customers, while furthering our commitment to building a thriving future for our hometown.”
