In the late 1970s, Ford sold a small car called the Fiesta. Designed and built in Germany, that Fiesta lasted three years before the Escort took its place in the automaker’s U.S. lineup. Decades later, Ford needed a new small car for the U.S. market and once again tapped the European Fiesta for the job, bringing the tiny, zippy, fuel-efficient car to America for a nine-year run. Ford offered it in four-door sedan and five-door hatchback body styles and multiple trim levels. These Fiestas were primarily economy cars but a performance-tuned ST version was the virtual definition of a pocket rocket. Ultimately, shrinking sales of small cars meant Ford again retired the Fiesta after the 2019 model year.
