Review QuickTakes:

Equipped with three rows of seats with room for up to eight passengers, the 2022 Honda Pilot is a popular choice among midsize SUVs. Honda offers the Pilot in five different trim levels, each equipped with a V6 engine and front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

2022 Honda Pilot Configurations

In what is likely the Pilot’s final year before a complete redesign, Honda pares the lineup down to five trim levels:

  • Pilot EX-L — With the discontinuation of LX and EX trim levels, the Pilot now comes standard with leather seats, a power sunroof, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a Honda Sensing collection of driving assistance systems, and more
  • Pilot Special Edition — If you like the popular blacked-out look but want a competitive deal, consider the Pilot Special Edition. It also has 20-inch wheels and a wireless smartphone charger
  • Pilot Touring — Touring trim is based on EX-L trim, adding 20-inch wheels, navigation, and available second-row captain’s chairs*. Connected services include a Wi-Fi hotspot, premium sound system, rear-seat entertainment system, and parking sensors
  • Pilot Elite — This version of the Pilot comes with rain-sensing wipers, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic glass sunroof
  • Pilot Black Edition — When you black everything out in the Pilot Elite, you’ll have the Pilot Black Edition

In addition to these five versions of the Pilot, Honda will release a new budget-oriented trim level in the fall of 2021.

What’s New for the 2022 Honda Pilot?

Honda eliminates the most affordable LX and EX versions of the SUV, but says a new budget-friendly trim level will replace them. A new paint color called Sonic Gray Pearl will become available around the same time.

Honda Pilot Competitors for 2022

There is no shortage of competitors to the 2022 Honda Pilot. Those often cross-shopped with the Pilot include the Hyundai Palisade, Kia Telluride, and Toyota Highlander. Chevrolet offers the Traverse to similar customer types, while Ford sells the Explorer. A redesigned 2022 Nissan Pathfinder is another alternative along with the Volkswagen Atlas.

My first word was “car.” That’s what I’m told, anyway. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with them. The design. The engineering. The performance. And the purpose. I’m a car enthusiast who loves to drive, but I’m also most interested in the cars, trucks, and SUVs that people actually buy. Anybody can tell you that a sports car is fast. What you need to know is whether or not you should buy that new SUV, and why. My life purpose is to help you make that decision.
