Car Overview
Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is a small crossover SUV with angular styling, a rakish roofline, and a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It went on sale in 2018, slotting between the marginally smaller Outlander Sport and the slightly larger Outlander in Mitsubishi’s SUV lineup. To drum up excitement for the new model, Mitsubishi dusted off the Eclipse nameplate for use on this SUV. However, while the Eclipse Cross’ turbocharged engine delivered decent performance, a continuously variable transmission (CVT) did not deliver the driving experience the Eclipse name, and its sporting pedigree, seem to promise. Mitsubishi skipped the 2021 model year, taking some time to restyle the Eclipse Cross, re-tune the driving dynamics, and add new technology to the SUV for the 2022 model year. In 2023, all-wheel drive became standard equipment.
