Like all automakers, Hyundai has embarked on a transition to electric vehicles. After testing the EV waters with the original Ioniq hatchback, Hyundai uses that car’s name as a sub-brand under which it will offer several electric models. The first one is the Ioniq 5, a compact crossover SUV equipped with dramatic design, seating for five people, and up to 59.3 cu.-ft. of cargo space. Maximum driving range exceeds 300 miles, courtesy of a new skateboard-style EV platform upon which Hyundai will build other Ioniq models. An Ioniq 5 highlight is a fully reclining driver’s seat with a leg rest to help owners more comfortably pass the time during battery charging sessions.
