When Ford introduced its new electric F-150 in 2022, it dusted off the Lightning nameplate previously used on a performance truck. The name couldn't be more appropriate. Ford offered the 2022 F-150 Lightning only in a crew-cab, short-bed body style with Pro, XLT, Lariat, or Platinum trim. Six people can fit when the truck has a front bench seat. Every Lightning came with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system juiced by a standard- or extended-range battery pack. Depending on the configuration, official driving range estimates were 230 to 320 miles. A Lightning recharges from 15% to 80% in 44 minutes or less when using a 150kW DC fast charger. A Level 2 home charging station requires up to 19 hours to bring the larger extended-range battery to full charge. Depending on which Lightning you choose, it offers 452 to 580 horsepower, tows 5,000 to 10,000 pounds, carries 1,952 to 2,235 pounds of payload, and offers a 14.1 cu-ft front trunk in addition to the 5.5-foot cargo bed.
