When Mazda launched the 2003 Mazda6 midsize car in the U.S., it was a critical hit, with car reviewers praising its attractive styling, tidy size, and rewarding driving dynamics. Mazda offered three body styles: a sedan, a hatchback, and a wagon. The second-generation Mazda6, a 2009 model, was larger and more powerful, but its performance aspects were less critically lauded. There was a third-generation version for 2014, and for 2018 Mazda added a turbocharged engine option and a higher-quality interior. But the car market shifted away from sedans, and the Mazda6 went out of production after the 2021 model year.
