The Grand Cherokee debuted in the early 1990s as a midsize, five-passenger SUV. Over the years, this SUV offered everything from inline-six-cylinder engines to supercharged V8 power. A plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) powertrain joined the lineup in 2022, named the Grand Cherokee 4xe. In its debut year, it could travel 26 miles using only electric power, and official EPA mileage ratings were 56 MPGe (battery and gas) and 23 mpg (gas only). It provided 375 horsepower and standard four-wheel drive. Jeep offered the Grand Cherokee 4xe in several trim levels, including the rugged Trailhawk with maximum off-roading capability, and the luxurious Summit and Summit Reserve models. The PHEV could carry 37.7 cubic feet of cargo behind its back seat, with a maximum cargo volume of 70.8 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. A properly equipped Grand Cherokee 4xe is rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds.
