Car Overview
The mid-engine Boxster has been a staple of the Porsche lineup for over 25 years. To design the concept, Grant Larson started with just a pen and paper, and took inspiration from the company's 1950s racer cars. The original Boxster, named to reflect its boxer-type six-cylinder engine and roadster body, is striking in how closely it resembles Larson's elegant concept, and those lines remain apparent today. The 718 designation was added when the Boxer switched from a flat-six to a flat-four engine family, though six-cylinder options would later return. In a nod to driving purists, Porsche continues to offer a manual transmission.
