Immediately after the Great Recession, small, affordable, fuel-efficient cars were suddenly popular again. So, to complement its existing Versa Sedan model, Nissan introduced the Versa Note five-door hatchback for people who wanted a little more practicality. Based on the Nissan Note sold elsewhere in the world, the Versa Note arrived for the 2014 model year. With 109 horsepower from a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable transmission turning the front wheels, the Versa Note was nimble in urban driving situations, if not terribly fast or fun to drive. Cargo space behind the back seat amounted to 21.4 cubic feet, swelling to 38.3 cu-ft with the rear seat folded down. Over the years, Nissan steadily upgraded the Versa Note with new trim levels and added technology, but the company dropped the hatchback after the 2019 model year. However, the Versa Sedan remained available.
