The original Lincoln Aviator debuted for the 2003 model year as a lightly disguised luxury version of the Ford Explorer. Lincoln discontinued it after 2005 in favor of the MKX but revived the Aviator nameplate for the 2020 model year. Once again, Lincoln based the second-generation Aviator on the Explorer, but this time it came with highly differentiated styling, interior design, and even an exclusive plug-in hybrid powertrain in the Grand Touring trim level. Equipped with three rows of seats and up to 77.7 cu.-ft. of cargo space, the Aviator is a family-friendly alternative to models such as the Acura MDX, Audi Q7, Cadillac XT6, Infiniti QX60, and Volvo XC90.
