What information is needed to open a checking account for students?

To open a Capital One 360 Checking account, have these things ready: your name, date of birth, mailing address, email, phone number, employment information, annual income, Tax ID Number (SSN or ITIN) and citizenship information.

Will all transactions count toward achieving the bonus?

What is a Qualifying Transaction?

A Qualifying Transaction is a transaction above $10 where your 360 Checking Debit Card is used.

Only in-person and online transactions with your debit card will qualify as purchases. Eligible transactions must be made within the first 75 days of account opening.

The following transaction types will not qualify:

ATM transactions
Peer-to-peer payments such as Zelle or Venmo
ACH payments (payments made with your account and routing number, not your debit card number)
Purchases associated with fraud
Pin-based cash withdrawals

When will I get my bonus?

You have 75 days after your account is open to complete the requirements above. After the first 75 days from account opening, your status to receive the bonus will be assessed and processed, which can take up to 60 days. This means, if all requirements are met, you can expect your bonus to be deposited into your account within 135 days from account opening. To receive your bonus, your account must also be open and in good standing at the time the bonus will be deposited.

What you need to know about the 360 Checking account:

A rate of NaN Annual Percentage Yield (APY) applies to accounts with balances between $0-$9,999.99, $10,000.00-$24,999.99, $25,000.00-$49,999.99, $50,000-$99,999.99, and $100,000 or more. 360 Checking is a tiered-rate account. Advertised rates are variable and effective as of 9/21/2026. Rates in any tier are subject to change at any time before or after account opening.

Compounding and crediting - Interest on your account will be compounded and credited on a monthly basis. Your account will only receive an interest posting if the amount earned during the month rounds to at least $0.01.

The 360 Checking account has no monthly cycle service charge and no minimum balance required to open or maintain the account.

No-fee overdraft authorizes us to consider paying your checks, ACH and recurring debit transactions that put your account into overdraft. You also have the option to ask us to consider paying your everyday debit card and ATM transactions if they would cause you to overdraft your account. In making a payment decision, we typically consider a variety of factors, including the size of the transaction, whether your account is in good standing and/or if you have had too many overdrafts. If we elect to pay an overdraft item, you have no right to defer payment and you must deposit additional funds into your account promptly in an amount sufficient to cover the overdraft. To qualify for no-fee overdraft, you must regularly deposit at least $250 during two of the previous three calendar months. Accounts that haven't met this will no longer have access to overdraft until the next month when you've met this requirement. New accounts will not have access to no-fee overdraft until the consistent deposit requirement has been met.

Add cash in store

For each add cash in store eligible account: add up to $999 per transaction, $1,500 a day and $5,000 a month. Add cash up to 10 times a month. Due to operational constraints, some add cash in store locations have varied limits. Additionally, the service will be unavailable at 7-Eleven, Stripes, and Speedway stores in the affected zip codes.
