What’s New for the 2022 Volvo XC90?
Volvo made few changes to the 2022 XC90. Navigation is standard for all models, and Volvo reserves the sporty R-Design trim for the XC90 Recharge PHEV lineup. Otherwise, the XC90 carries on while Volvo readies an electric replacement for the model.
2022 Volvo XC90 Price and Configurations
For the 2022 model year, Volvo XC90 prices range from the low $50,000s to the mid $70,000s, and the crossover SUV comes in T5, T6, and Recharge T8 model series.
The T5 has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). A turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder engine powers the T6 and pairs with standard AWD. The Recharge T8 features a plug-in hybrid powertrain supplying 18 miles of electric-only range before switching to gas-electric hybrid operation. It includes electronic AWD.

Volvo sells the 2022 XC90 in four trim levels:
Volvo XC90 Momentum — Available only for the XC90 T5 and T6, Momentum trim equips the SUV with 19 inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and front and rear park-assist sensors. Inside, the XC90 Momentum features simulated leather upholstery, aluminum interior trim, a four-zone automatic climate control system with PM 2.5 filtration, and a 12.3 inch digital instrumentation panel. The 9 inch touchscreen infotainment system adds standard navigation this year and continues to offer smartphone integration with Apple and Android support, Wi-Fi access, and wireless smartphone charging.
Volvo also equips every 2022 XC90 with numerous driver-assist and collision avoidance technologies, including adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert with automatic rear braking. Oncoming Lane Mitigation is also standard, helping XC90 drivers avoid collisions with oncoming vehicles.
Volvo XC90 Inscription Expression — Available only for the Recharge T8, this trim provides a more affordable pathway to owning the PHEV model. It is essentially the same as the Momentum trim described above.
Volvo XC90 R-Design — This year, Volvo limits R-Design trim to the XC90 Recharge T8 lineup. It features Inscription Expression equipment plus sporty exterior styling, 20 inch alloy wheels with a 5-spoke design, mesh-pattern aluminum interior trim, and upholstery combining textile, simulated leather, and premium leather. It also includes a premium sound system.
Volvo XC90 Inscription — You can equip the XC90 T6 and XC90 T8 with Inscription trim. It builds on Momentum and Inscription Expression with 20 inch alloy wheels in a 10-spoke design, premium leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, and a premium sound system.

Safety sells the Volvo XC90, which earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). But this SUV offers more to people than just favorable safety ratings. Appealing looks, a minimalist interior dripping in Scandinavian style, exceptionally comfortable front seats and second-row rear seats, and third-row rear seats supplying room for up to seven people are also convincing arguments in favor of this Volvo. Plus, nods to both sustainability and electrification draw progressive-minded people to the XC90, while the sporty Recharge T8 R-Design is both powerful and rewarding to drive.
