“I received a quote through Edmunds. I contacted CarMax and got an appointment the same day. Upon my arrival they were aware I was coming and there was no waiting. Stephen explained the process and after a short test drive, etc. to examine my vehicle, he presented me with the offer. The entire process was seamless and hassle free. I would highly recommend CarMax.”

“Editing my review here, I previously had a poor experience with CarMax. After posting this they bought back my very defective vehicle and I was able to find another truck that fit my needs. No fault to them on the vehicle being bad and they did everything to make it right. Thanks to CarMax for making this right, specifically Xavier for coordinating everything.”

“We have purchased twice from Carmax and have nothing but good things to say! Quick and easy process (way better than a typical dealership), amazing warranty, and great customer service. We’re currently working with the clackamas and Vancouver locations, they even sent us a gift in the mail for our newborn baby. Shout out to Xavier, Duran and Granny!”

“I've purchased 4 vehicles from CarMax and never will again. The MaxCare warranty is a scam. The agents aren't trained to help you through the process they're trained to deny claims. I had a car dealer perform a repair but because they didn't get "pre-authorization" MaxCare is refusing to even discuss if the repair would have been covered. They have no intention of fulfilling the warranty. It's a complete waste of money.”

“I had an incredibly frustrating experience with CarMax that left me completely disinterested in ever purchasing a vehicle from them. I had reserved a mid-size SUV to be transferred from Beaverton to Vancouver, with plans to test drive it on the 16th. I set up the transfer on May 11 after speaking to a representative who confirmed everything was good to go. The night before, I checked the app and saw the transfer was inexplicably canceled. I called the number listed on Google and was routed to a national customer service rep who couldn’t tell me why it was canceled. By the time they offered to call the store, it had already closed. He also tried to convince me to look at a completely different car because it had the “same chassis,” and was noticeably dismissive when I said I wasn’t interested. The next morning, I tried again and reached another remote rep who said she would attempt to reverse the cancellation and set up a viewing in Beaverton. Wanting to see the car, I made the trip… even though my current vehicle has been unreliable, which is why I’m car shopping in the first place. When I arrived in Beaverton, an employee went to find the car, only to return with a manager who informed me it had in fact been transferred to Vancouver after all. No one offered to call the other location or set up an appointment… just told me to head back there. On the way back to Vancouver, my car malfunctioned and I had to get off the freeway in Portland and wait for a tow truck. After finally making it to the Vancouver CarMax with help from my mom, we sat and waited for hours. Eventually, someone told us the car was out back and unlocked, so we could go take a look. The moment I opened the door, I was hit with a strong cigarette odor. The front seats were stained with what looked like mold or water damage, and the smell was overwhelming. The back hatch was coated in moss, wood debris, and, unbelievably… a wasp nest with wasp on it. Back inside, I was told that CarMax doesn’t really do deep cleaning unless management approves a detail. I did take it for a short test drive, and while it drove fine, the cigarette smell was unbearable…I had a headache within 20 minutes. I told them I was no longer interested and, while waiting, just browsed other dealerships online. Another couple nearby even commented on how ridiculous the whole process was just to test drive a car. Overall, it was a disgusting, chaotic, and disappointing experience. I won’t be returning. I’ve always paid cash and bought cars privately, so I was excited for my first big car purchase to be as easy as their commercials make it sound… but it was anything but.”
