“Phil, my service advisor was excellent! He treated me with patience, kindness and respect.
While I waited for my car to be serviced, I noticed the vibe of the dealership was positive, and upbeat. All staff members seemed to respect each other and were kind to one another. I felt very comfortable. A gentleman in a pink suit jacket, who I assumed was a manager, was checking on all of us waiting to ensure we had coffee, tea, etc. (which was self serve) This was a nice touch, one that I haven’t seen at any other dealership.
When my car was finished, Phil came to walk me back to the cashier where I was pleasantly surprised there were no “additional” fees added to my bill. I needed a tire since I had gotten a flat. He was spot on with the prices I was quoted. I did price comparisons and the dealer was the best price! Even cheaper than BJ’s. I was shocked.
I would be comfortable purchasing my next car with this team.”

“Work Billed vs. Work Done (Unacceptable)
My parents purchased their 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan new from this dealership and have continued to service it here since.
On January 21, 2026, they brought the vehicle in due to starting issues. The dealership diagnosed the problem as a bad battery and charged approximately $623 to replace it ($325 for labor). The service invoice states that the original battery was removed and replaced, coding and adaptation were performed, and a Volkswagen multipoint visual and video inspection was completed.
Despite this, the vehicle continued to have no-start issues over the next two weeks, requiring multiple jump-starts. Relying on the written service documentation confirming the battery had already been replaced, they reasonably assumed there might be another issue and scheduled a follow-up appointment for February 2.
On the morning of February 2, during another no-start requiring a jump, my father discovered that the original factory battery was still installed, despite the January 21 invoice stating it had been replaced. He brought this to the dealership’s attention, and after waiting approximately an hour, the battery was finally replaced with a new one.
In short, they were billed for a battery replacement that was never performed, supported by service records stating the work had been completed and inspected. Despite taking additional time off work for a second visit to receive a service that should have been completed the first time, no apology, goodwill gesture, or refund of any kind, including labor, was offered.
This experience was especially concerning because customers are generally not in a position to independently verify whether billed service work has actually been performed. While this issue happened to involve a battery replacement, a more complex internal repair would leave a customer with no practical way to confirm whether the work described in the invoice was actually done without spending additional time + money involving a third party mechanic or another VW service center.
At a minimum, customers should be able to rely on service invoices to accurately reflect what was done to their vehicle and what they paid for. Ideally, a business that makes a mistake of this nature corrects it transparently and takes reasonable steps to restore customer trust, particularly when “customer satisfaction” is boldly presented as its “Number 1 Concern.””

“First & foremost, I must give HUGE shout outs and high recommendations to the VW Smithtown team that handled my car purchase. From Mike Dougherty, (sales) to Thomas and John (financials), to Brandon, the team was patient, personable & professional. Thank you Mike for the initial personable encounter & not being that "pushy" annoying sales rep. Thomas, I can't thank you enough for your kindness & keeping your word on promises made to assist with payment reduction & feasible comps. Since you were out of the office the unexpected day I came in to talk financials, I just knew that all promises you made were off the table since I had to meet with someone else. Well, I was happily incorrect. John picked up where you left off and indicated that you wanted to ensure that the promises were maintained, and they were! John was a consummate professional, extremely personable & provided complex financials in layman's terms. Thank you John. Wrapping up the deal with insurance, plates (and photography) was Brandon. Brandon, thank you for ensuring the last phase of the deal went smoothly. You made the last phase entertaining & fun. Your humor, outgoing personality & photography was a great way to wrap up an overall wonderful experience with Smithtown Volkswagon! Thank you Smithtown VW! Coming from someone who is wary of car dealerships..I highly recommend this location!”
