“I had a very disappointing and concerning experience at this dealership. I came in with a pre-approval letter from my bank. My financing was already secured. The dealership told me it was “mandatory” to provide my Social Security number so they could verify my identity and confirm the bank. While I was waiting about 15 minutes for them to “verify” my pre-approval, I personally called my bank and walked over with my banker on the phone. That’s when the salesperson suddenly stated the vehicle was a buyback under lemon law and claimed my bank would not finance it. What’s troubling is that they clearly knew the vehicle was a buyback and likely knew my bank would not finance that type of vehicle — yet they did not disclose this upfront. Instead, they insisted on getting my SSN first. If they knew my bank would not finance a buyback, they should have been transparent from the beginning about the vehicle’s status and why they wanted my Social Security number. It feels misleading to request sensitive personal information without fully disclosing material facts about the vehicle. Buyers deserve honesty and full disclosure, especially when it comes to lemon/buyback vehicles and financing requirements. I would strongly encourage future customers to verify everything before providing personal information.”
