“My experience at CarMax was good overall. The process was simple and well organized. The team was helpful and explained the financing and paperwork clearly. While the wait time was a little longer than expected, everything else went smoothly. I’m happy with my purchase and would consider CarMax again.”

“5-star experience. Purchasing was a breeze, and currently the warranty service the car needs has been a very pleasant and professional experience. Love the 10-day return window & 90-day warranty. Absolute peace of mind. Gordon in sales and Michael in service are a joy to work with. Friendly, professional, very accommodating. Would purchase from CarMax again in a heartbeat.”

“My husband is 74 years old, retired with excellent credit. We went in to buy a 2018 Jeep to replace his 2013 Jeep. They had to transfer it from another Carmax location. We went it buy it, the salesman was fine, the process was the worst time in 55 years of buying a car. They put a trade value of $4000 on my 2013 Jeep with 104,000 miles in excellent shape that was selling for $12 to $15,000 at Dealers within 100 miles of Us. BTW I sold it on Facebook Marketplace for $9,000 to a man in Vermont within 10 days of listing. He flew down to pick it up that weekend. I was going to pay cash, but they had a low rate so we said ok to finance. After we filled out the loan application and waiting for awhile they said we needed copies of SS card (who carries his SS card now a days) we said we could send a copy when we go home. They said we could not take the Jeep till we brought the cards in. We have 800 Beacon scores my husband and I. My husband said if we had to go home and back without the car we would bring a check and pay cash. They said that was fine but had to bring proof the Cashier Check was good as well. They would not even hold the Jeep with a Deposit till we came back. If this was the only Jeep that fit what my husband wanted within 500 miles, or we would have bought another. I will not recommend Carmax at all unless it is the only car you find that fits your needs. BTW Carvana offered me $8500 for my Jeep.”

“We enjoyed a terrific experience here at CarMax in Gaithersburg/Shady Grove to sell my Mom's 2010 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. I wasn't sure what to expect at CarMax, given it had been at least 15 years since our previous engagement with them. Happily, the facility is well designed, superbly organized and staffed by just about the happiest personnel I could imagine. Outstanding people in particular were Queenia and Mindy, who worked patiently with me over 2 days back and forth as I gathered all the paperwork in order. Whether you're selling or buying, be sure to visit CarMax Shady Grove!”

“I sold my car at CarMax recently. The best part was how fast the appraisal process was. They had me pull up, checked the car, and gave me an offer within about 30 minutes. The offer itself was fair, and in line with what I had seen online, which I appreciated. The actual payment process was also smooth. I had the check in hand the same day. Where things fell short was the customer service and communication. Even with an appointment, I felt like I was just another number in line. The staff didn’t explain much unless I asked directly, like how they came up with the offer or what would happen with the title paperwork. It felt a little rushed and transactional, without much effort to make the experience more personal. Another frustration was the wait once I accepted the offer, almost an hour of sitting around for them to “process paperwork.” For a place that markets convenience, that part dragged on longer than it should have. If you want a quick and straightforward way to sell your car without dealing with private buyers, CarMax works. But don’t expect top dollar or a polished, customer-focused experience.”
