“Buying my first car here went so well, but returning for new one was an absolute nightmare.
We came in to trade in a vehicle and find a truck, we paid to have it shipped from another carmax, and they did the offer on our trade in. They took photos of the trade and noted all the damage. We were given a number that would expire in 7 days, and I specifically asked 2 people that worked there if that would still be honored if the truck wasn’t here within 7 days. They both verbally confirmed that offer would be honored.
So we came to get the truck when it arrived 8 days later, they told us they would not honor the number they gave us, nothing about our vehicle had changed, but they made an error not putting in a dent in the fender. I argued that they had photos showing the dent in the last offer, and therefore it should still be honored, they refused. So we re-ran our credit again and with the new trade-in value, we were approved for the same loan so we wanted to go through with it. Then an issue with the bank happened and we were again promised that the offer would be honored for that loan. We’ve called and called and finally after multiple days we were told because of the value of the trade decreasing by $500 we could not get those terms. They told me to put the truck on insurance before we purchased it and now I have to convince my insurance that we do not own this truck. Additionally, we’re out the $100 we had to pay to transfer the vehicle, they still won’t honor there verbal contract for the trade in, and just overall were incredibly disappointed and upset with how many times they lied and deceived us, and how many times they made “mistakes”. I would encourage you to not give them your business, and rather drive to a different Carmax’s or a different dealership.
I truly believe that the trade in should have been honored and/or we should be reimbursed for the shipping fee of the truck. The error was on there part and not our end. Additionally I will be writing to the better business bureau, because lying to you customers multiple times should not be acceptable.
As much as I love my SUV, this experience will keep me from ever returning for my own vehicle again.”

“Very dishonorable. They will tell you one thing then 2 days later change it up. If they give you an offer for your car but you’re waiting for them to ship a car in they won’t honor the deal you had. Then when they have banking issues we waited 3 days to get it figured out just for them to come back and not honor the deal that was made prior. Overall poor management. Cars are rusty underneath. Half the cars smell like weed. Go anywhere else if you can.”

“Great online experience online with the quick offer and great experience in person with Madisyn doing the appraisal and explaining everything to get the official offer. Selling the truck was simple and took only about 30-40 minutes.”

“I dealt with Todd M. He was extremely professional and knowledgeable. Todd and CarMax met and exceeded all of my expectations! I sold my car to CarMax and the price I was quoted (which was by far the best price I was quoted from anyone else!) was exactly what I was paid, no haggling or bait and switch or nit picking the quoted offer!! Just honest straightforward business dealing!! And to show you just how fantastic they were to deal with, they even gave me a complimentary’Uber’ ride home!!! Awesome!!
