Review QuickTakes:

The 2022 Ford Edge is a midsize, two-row, five-passenger crossover SUV. The lineup includes an affordable model, a performance model, a luxury model, and variations between them. Depending on how you spec the SUV, turbocharged four-cylinder and twin-turbocharged V6 EcoBoost engines power all four wheels.

Dating back to the 2007 model year, the Edge takes its name from a trim package offered on the Ranger midsize pickup. There’s never been anything particularly edgy about it, though a second-generation redesign for 2015 added sharper lines.

For 2021, Ford updated the SUV’s infotainment technology, and over the past eight years, the automaker has updated the Edge’s safety systems. But otherwise, this model has received very little attention. Moreover, rumor has it Ford might cancel the Edge as it executes its transformation to electrified vehicles.

What’s New for the 2022 Ford Edge?

For 2022, Ford makes all-wheel drive standard on the Edge. In addition, Ford reports that two new colors called Flight Blue and Forged Green are available, and the automaker says it is offering new Black Appearance and Adventure packages for the 2022 Edge.

The Black Appearance package predictably installs black 19-inch alloy wheels, black badges, a black grille, black mirror caps, and black skid plates. But it comes with body-color bumpers. Meanwhile, the Adventure package adds Carbonized Gray 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, ActiveX leatherette, dark blue interior stitching, black mirror caps, black grille bars, and black roof rails.

How Much is a Ford Edge?

This year, 2022 Ford Edge prices range from the high $30,000s to the high $40,000s, including the destination charge to ship the SUV from the Ontario, Canada, assembly plant that builds it to your local dealership.

2022 Ford Edge Trim Levels and Configurations

Ford offers the 2022 Edge in five different trim levels, each equipped with standard all-wheel drive. Standard equipment highlights are listed below:

  • Ford Edge SE — The most affordable version of the 2022 Edge has 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic high-beam headlights, rear parking sensors, dual-zone automatic climate control, cloth seats, and a height-adjustable driver’s seat. In addition, standard features include a Sync 4A infotainment system with a 12-inch touchscreen display, FordPass Connect services with Wi-Fi hotspot access, and satellite radio. A Ford Co-Pilot360 collection of safety systems is also standard, including forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist
  • Ford Edge SEL — Choosing the Edge SEL means you have broader access to optional equipment upgrades. Additionally, the SEL has a unique 18-inch wheel design, added chrome trim, and heated side mirrors. Inside, the SEL features upgraded instrumentation, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Ford’s ActiveX simulated leather upholstery, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and heated front seats
  • Ford Edge ST-Line — For a performance-oriented look, choose the Edge ST-Line. It comes with 20-inch black alloy wheels, sporty exterior styling cues, fog lights, and exclusive interior design elements. A SecuriCode keyless entry keypad and power liftgate are standard, as well as remote engine starting, a wireless charging pad, and a 110-volt power outlet
  • Ford Edge Titanium — The Edge Titanium swaps the ST-Line wheels, body styling, and interior details for 19-inch alloys, upscale exterior trim, and a quieter interior with ambient lighting. This model also includes rain-sensing wipers, a hands-free power liftgate, leather upholstery, a six-way power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, a heated steering wheel, memory for the driver’s preferences, and a premium 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system
  • Ford Edge ST — This is a legitimately performance-tuned version of the Edge. It builds on the ST-Line with an exclusive 20-inch wheel design, twin-turbo V6 engine, and black mesh grille. Additionally, this model comes with rain-sensing wipers, measures to quiet the interior, ambient cabin lighting, perforated leather wrapped around the steering wheel, and aluminum pedal covers

The Edge ST’s front seats have additional bolstering, and this model features leather upholstery with simulated suede inserts, a six-way power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, memory for the driver’s preferences, and a premium 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. However, unlike the ST-Line, wireless charging, remote start, and a 110-volt power outlet are optional on ST models rather than standard equipment.

2022 Ford Edge Review and Test Drive

Capital One plans to evaluate and review this vehicle during the current model year. Therefore, we will update this page with driving impressions later.

Is the 2022 Ford Edge a Good SUV?

Aside from its odd proportions, the Ford Edge is an appealing vehicle if you’re seeking the utility of an SUV in a pavement-friendly package. Despite its standard AWD system, the Edge is the epitome of a crossover, and that’s especially true with the ST trim level, which can rip along mountain roads with surprising speed and grace. Still, this second-generation Edge is rapidly aging, and it is uncertain if Ford will redesign it in the future.

My first word was “car.” That’s what I’m told, anyway. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with them. The design. The engineering. The performance. And the purpose. I’m a car enthusiast who loves to drive, but I’m also most interested in the cars, trucks, and SUVs that people actually buy. Anybody can tell you that a sports car is fast. What you need to know is whether or not you should buy that new SUV, and why. My life purpose is to help you make that decision.
