Frequently asked questions
- How can I use this credit score?
Your free Credit Tracker score from TransUnion is a good reference point for your current credit standing. This informational/educational score is not used for credit or lending decisions.
- How often is my score updated?
Starting with your first visit, your score is updated every 30 days but no more than once a month. Please note, you must log in at least once a month to receive an updated score. You can log in to Credit Tracker as often as you like to view your credit history, see credit alerts, review your grade overview, or use the Credit Simulator tool.
- Where does this score come from?
Your Credit Tracker score is calculated based on the TransUnion New Account Model. The model utilizes information in your TransUnion credit report, which may include your bill pay history, amount of available credit, number and age of open accounts, recent credit activity, etc. Credit Tracker provides an educational score courtesy of TransUnion, one of three nationwide credit bureaus, and uses only credit report information from the TransUnion database.
- Why is my credit score important?
Businesses look at your credit score in a number of situations—including decisions about whether to lend to you and at what rate, whether to rent to you, whether to extend you a job offer and sometimes how much to charge you for insurance. Businesses believe that how you’ve handled credit in the past predicts how you will handle credit in the future.
- Does using Credit Tracker impact my credit score?
No. You can utilize all of Credit Tracker's free tools and features without impacting your score.
- What types of alerts will I receive?
Credit Tracker sends alerts to update you on your current credit status. You can receive alerts for factors that affect your score, including a new inquiry, recently opened account, delinquent account, improved account, or bankrupt account. Credit Tracker also sends reminders for changes to your public record, address, or employment information on file with TransUnion.
- How does TransUnion Credit Tracker differ from FICO®?
Lenders use many scoring models to calculate your credit score. All of these methods take into account key factors, including your history of on-time payments and credit report details, to measure how likely you are to repay a loan. Your Credit Tracker score is based on the TransUnion New Account Model and is intended for consumer informational purposes only.
- How accurate is the credit score simulator?
The simulator calculates possible Credit Tracker scores using information you provide. This educational tool does not generate an actual score, but rather estimates how future credit behavior could impact your Credit Tracker score. NOTE: Credit Tracker can only evaluate the account information that appears on your TransUnion credit report. Accounts not reported to or subsequently deleted from the TransUnion credit report will not be reflected in your score.
