Genesis will launch three electric vehicles in 2023, with theGenesis GV60 as the all-out competitor to the well-established Tesla Model Y.

Available right now, the Genesis GV60 is a five-seat EV crossover designed to offer a unique departure from the expensive optional features that have been an unpleasant lingering reality in the electric car marketplace.

2023 Genesis GV60: Price

Genesis has taken a strong middle-ground with the GV60’s pricing. At a starting price of about $59,000 for the entry-level advanced all-wheel drive (AWD) model and around $68,000 for its dual-motor Performance AWD model, the GV60 is neither the cheapest nor most expensive compact EV crossover in today’s market. What separates this luxury EV from its competition is its value. There is no such thing as a “basic” Genesis GV60. Both versions are richly equipped, with the advanced AWD model offering a wide array of intuitive technological features at a price that is nearly $10,000 less than the least expensive Tesla Model Y. The only options available to order on the Genesis GV60 are unique paint colors ($575) and a first-aid kit ($45).

The Genesis GV60 is not eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit. However, the Tesla Model Y will qualify for this subsidy beginning in January 2023. This disparity will narrow the price difference between the two, with the Model Y likely remaining substantially more expensive than the Genesis GV60 as you add more options.

2023 Genesis GV60: Range

The Genesis GV60 offers a tweak to EV range. The entry-level advanced AWD model provides 314hp with about 248 miles of range. The performance AWD (the sports version of the GV60), has a Boost Mode delivering supercar levels of acceleration in exchange for a reduction to 235 miles of range.

The real-world daily ownership experience of the Genesis GV60 outdoes most other EVs thanks to a V2L Charging System capable of charging the SUV’s battery from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. A battery conservation mode is also available, helping drivers find nearby charging stations while minimizing energy output.

2023 Genesis GV60: Interior

The Genesis GV60 trades the stark interior and oversized center screen of a Tesla Model Y for the opulence of a luxury crossover. The front seats are the ultimate beacon for this upscale approach with a power-extending thigh cushion, and inflatable side and bottom bolsters that contour the front seat to the driver’s body.

Soft touches and curvaceous flowing double-stitched patterns surround the driver and passengers, even in the entry-level advanced AWD model. This clever approach to luxury, where even entry-level models get nearly all the high-quality touches as the premium versions, makes the Genesis GV60 unique in today’s EV market.

The GV60 gets facial and fingerprint recognition for ease of entry, along with a panoramic moonroof, a Bang & Olufsen 17-speaker premium audio system, leather seats, and dual 12.3-inch LCD screens that use easy-to-read icons to help keep the driver’s eyes on the road.

Performance AWD models come with the same Nappa leather seating surfaces used in the flagship Genesis GV80, along with an ErgoMotion massaging driver’s seat that, according to Genesis, “uses inbuilt air-cells to massage the driver gently.” Heated rear seats and a microfiber headliner round off upscale features part of the performance AWD model.
