Volkswagen is growing its line of electric vehicles with a new midsize sedan known as the ID.7 that will be sold alongside the plug-in ID.4 compact crossover and ID. Buzz electric van beginning in 2024.

Here's what we know so far about VW's latest electric vehicle.

Volkswagen ID.7 Styling and Features

Though billed as a sedan, the ID.7 features a rear hatch, enabling designers to incorporate a sloping roofline that contributes to the car's 0.23 drag coefficient. The ID.7 measures 195.3 inches in length, or roughly 4 inches longer than the Arteon sedan.

The ID.7's front fascia features an inset VW logo flanked by LED accents and headlamps using VW's matrix LED technology. The four-door uses a rear LED light bar that turns from white to red when illuminated. The ID.7 will be available with an electro-chromic panoramic sunroof that can be switched from opaque to transparent.

The interior of the ID.7 features a center-mounted 15.0-inch infotainment screen that can be operated via touch or voice commands. Additional standard features are set to include an augmented reality head-up display, touch-slide controls, and an air conditioning system that can be angled in specific directions via the central screen. Buyers will be able to option their ID.7 with a 14-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and massaging front seats that feature heating, cooling, and drying functions.

The ID.7 will be available with Level 2 autonomous technology, which allows for limited hands-free stints. The ID.7 will also be able to park itself thanks to a new feature called Park Assist Pro with Memory Function that records the last 55 yards driven. Based on that memory, the car can park itself with the driver aboard, or the car can be parked from outside the vehicle using a smartphone application.

VW ID.7 Powertrains and Range

At launch, the ID.7 arrives with just one powertrain — a rear-mounted single motor rated at 282 horsepower. The long-range version of the ID.7 will be able to cover up to 435 miles on a single charge, according to VW estimates based on the European WLTP cycle, which can yield figures than those of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The ID.7 will boast fast-charging tech with capabilities topping out at about 200 kilowatts.

2024 Volkswagen ID.7 Availability and Pricing

The ID.7 will hit showrooms in Europe and China later this year. Buyers in the U.S. will have to wait until sometime in 2024 to take delivery of the ID.7. As of April 2023, VW has not announced pricing for the ID.7.
