Workers need them. Drivers enjoy them. And dogs love 'em. The almighty pickup truck is a vehicle with a closed cabin and an open bed and is inherently part of our culture and a fixture on our streets. Finding the perfect pickup can be a long, not to mention expensive, exercise, so we've put together a few select pickup trucks under $50,000 manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) to make it a bit easier.

Honda

2022 Honda Ridgeline Sport With HPD Bronze Package

Starting MSRP $40,085

Who doesn't love bronze wheels? These 18 inch alloy beauties come standard on the HPD bronze package from Honda. Also included are the fender flare, the special grille, and the HPD emblem and stickers on the truck bed. Looking for fun? How about a 9-speed automatic sport transmission with paddle shifters? The intelligent traction management system also makes selecting between snow, sand, and mud driving super simple. The Ridgeline Sport's driver assistance includes lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control. Plus, like all Ridgelines, this model comes standard with all-wheel drive (AWD).

Toyota

2022 Toyota Tundra Limited 4x4

Starting MSRP $49,850

Squeezing just inside the new pickup trucks under $50,000 category is the Tundra 4x4 Limited. With a 6.5 ft bed and a double cab, the Tundra Limited is powered by a 3.5L turbocharged V6 engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission. For rough driving, the Tundra provides part-time four-wheel drive (4WD) with an electronically controlled transfer case and an automatic limited-slip differential to ensure that the power goes to wheels with the most grip. The Tundra Limited 4x4 also comes with the Toyota Safety Sense drivers assistance package with rear cross-traffic alert and trailer merge warning. Speaking of towing, the Limited trim has a maximum towing capacity of just over 11,000 lbs and a max payload of just over 1,800 lbs.

Chevrolet

2022 Chevrolet Colorado 4WD ZR2

Starting MSRP $47,870

Building a tough truck filled with aftermarket parts can be fun, but it can also be an exercise in patience, not to mention willpower. That's why most manufacturers offer pickup trucks under $50,000 that include an off-road-ready package. Enter the Colorado ZR2. Powered by a 3.6L V6 engine, the ZR2 produces 275 lb.-ft. of torque and 308 hp. But with the ZR2 package, the body gets an off-road fascia, rear bumper, and fender flares. Custom suspension dampers by Multimatic ensure your off-roading is professional grade. Plus, the wider and taller stance adds an appropriately intimidating persona to this dirt-loving beast.

Nissan

2022 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab PRO-4X 4x4 with Pro Premium Package

Starting MSRP $44,290

While the base Frontier starts under $30,000 MSRP, this PRO-4X version provides all kinds of upgrades to make your 4x4 dreams a reality. This truck is ready to hit the (off-) road with Bilstein off-road shock absorbers, an electronic locking rear differential, and three steel underbody skid plates. Plus, both hill start assist and hill descent control make the mountainous driving a breeze. The Frontier's Premium Package adds a Fender audio system with ten speakers, a power moonroof, and leather seating with red contrast stitching. The 3.8L V6 engine will produce up to 310 hp and expect an EPA-estimated combined mileage of 19 mpg.

Ram

2022 RAM 1500 Rebel

Starting MSRP $48,645

This 4x2 crew cab is powered by a 3.6L V6 eTorque (mild-hybrid) engine whose two-step variable valve lift is among the technologies improving its power and efficiency. The Rebel has seating for five with bucket seats. Running on 18 inch black wheels with all-terrain tires, the RAM 1500 Rebel has a tough presence to equal its performance. This package includes a two-tone exterior color scheme and Rebel graphics by Mopar. Ram's latest Uconnect version three is also provided in the 5 inch display and integrated voice command, Bluetooth streaming audio, and available satellite radio.

Toyota

2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro

Starting MSRP $45,935

Like its big brother, the Tundra, the Tacoma knows how to party both on and off-road. The TRD Pro in particular arrives prepared for the most challenging terrain. Check your surroundings with the touch of a button thanks to the Multi-Terrain Monitor camera system, which displays front, rear, and side views, so nothing sneaks up on you by surprise. Plus, the Tacoma TRD Pro has FOX 2.5 inch internal bypass shocks specifically tuned for the TRD trim. Creature comforts include the JBL Premium Audio and a power moonroof. Meanwhile, the safety system includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, and a pre-collision braking system with pedestrian detection.

Whether it's on the road working hard or hardly working off-road, there are plenty of great options in the pickups under $50,000 category. Just be careful when configuring the wide array of add-ons — before you know it, you could spend more than you bargained for.
