At the 2023 Detroit auto show, Ford unveiled a host of updates for its bestselling F-150 full-size pickup truck for the 2024 model year.

Improvements span the entire 2024 Ford F-150 lineup, from the entry-level XL to the range-topping Raptor R, and include revised styling and more standard technology.

F-150 Lineup Gains More Turbo Options

Ford's turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 — called EcoBoost in Ford-speak — slots in as the F-150's base engine for 2024, replacing the naturally aspirated 3.3-liter V6 that was previously standard. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 is rated at 325 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, representing a significant upgrade over the outgoing engine's 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft. A 10-speed automatic transmission, mated to either two- or four-wheel drive, remains the F-150's lone gearbox choice.

The only F-150 engine without a turbo or supercharger is now the 5.0-liter V8.

At the top end of the F-150 hierarchy, Ford promises more power for the 2024 Raptor R. Specific figures were not made available as of September 2023, but Ford says the 2024 Raptor R will produce more than 700 horsepower from its 5.2-liter supercharged V8.

As of September 2023, Ford has not announced changes to the all-electric F-150 Lightning.

Tailgate Door Opens Up More Cargo Carrying Utility

A tailgate that can swing open sideways known as Pro Access Tailgate joins the F-150's option list for 2024. The tailgate has detents to stop it at 37, 70, and 100 degrees, allowing for usable access to the bed when towing a trailer. Usability is further enhanced with an optional extended-step rear bumper. Pro Access Tailgate is an available extra for select trims, including the new-for-2024 Platinum Plus trim. It's worth noting that the Pro Access Tailgate can also be opened and closed like a traditional tailgate.

Owners of the 2024 F-150 can still choose the classic drop-down tailgate instead of the swinging door.

Bigger Screens and Head-Up Display

All 2024 F-150 models receive as standard a 12.0-inch digital gauge display and a Sync 4 12.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that's compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. An optional head-up display is an F-150 first.

Other notable tech onboard the 2024 F-150 includes available Stolen Vehicle Services, which can track your vehicle in case of theft, and the latest version of Ford’s hands-free BlueCruise automated driving system on certain trim levels.

Minor Styling Tweaks

All 2024 F-150 models receive fresh front-end styling with revised grilles and headlights, while new-look taillights are present out back.

Off-road-oriented Tremor and Raptor models get an optional modular front bumper for 2024 that can be further kitted out with either a dealer-installed winch or light bar.

Raptor-specific improvements include the availability of Fox Dual Live Valve shocks, which Ford states improves overall body control.

A new Platinum Plus trim replaces the Limited grade as the pinnacle of F-150 luxury for 2024. This new range-topper includes warm mushroom and copper hues inside rather than the standard Platinum's stark black with blue stitching.
