Black Friday and Cyber Monday at Walmart

Learn five ways to make the most of the short holiday shopping season.

As if the holiday season wasn’t hectic enough—this year, Thanksgiving arrives later than usual in November. And that means waiting longer for both the turkey dinner and the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season: Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Thankfully, Capital One and Walmart are here to help you make the most of two of the biggest shopping days of the year.

Walmart Black Friday promotions start the day before Thanksgiving (November 27) at 10 p.m. And in-store specials begin Thanksgiving Day at 6 p.m. To get more from these opportunities, it helps to prepare and take note of everything your store has planned.

As you look over wish lists, keep an eye out. It could be the perfect time to score deals on popular toys, electronics, home furnishings and more.

And if you have a Capital One Walmart Rewards® Card, you can earn 5% back at Walmart Online. You can also earn 5% back on in-store purchases for the first 12 months after you’re approved. Just use your card with Walmart Pay.

There’s no annual fee for the card.1 View important rates and disclosures. And rewards can be redeemed as statement credits, used to cover recent purchases, or turned into gift cards from Walmart and other retailers. It’s up to you whether you use your rewards to spread cheer or treat yourself to a holiday gift.

Here are five ways to make the most of holiday shopping at Walmart.

1. Watch for early deals

Although Black Friday and Cyber Monday occur later in the month, Walmart is already rolling out extra savings. Look for Early Deals Drop on Walmart.com to find discounts on some of the season’s most sought-after items.

If your kids are dreaming of a new gaming system, you might be able to grab one at a discount. If you don’t see what you want now, be sure to check back later. New Early Deal Drops will be offered throughout the holiday season.

There are also familiar Rollbacks and the annual toy catalog to help you save on gifts.

2. Make a list and check it twice

If you’re hosting holiday parties or hearing suggestions for Santa at the dinner table, writing ideas down can help you stay organized. Better yet, compile them using the Walmart app. Create a master list with everything you’ll need for holiday meals, party prep, decorations and gifts.

And if you use the app’s List function, you can:

  • Add products using voice or text, or by scanning barcodes
  • Check price and availability
  • Find where your items are located in the store
  • Even shop directly from the app

Not sure what to get someone on your list?

Try Walmart’s Gift Finder. The tool has profiles for 40 different types of gift recipients. And you can filter based on price, age and gift type. The Gift Finder can help you find the perfect present, whether you’re buying for a secret gift exchange at work or shopping for that special someone.

3. Plot your strategy

Walmart places hot sales items throughout its stores during Black Friday. To find these doorbusters quickly and save time, you can check out the store layout ahead of time. Walmart offers special maps that outline where its best Black Friday deals can be found. Maps are color-coded to make things easy. You can find your store’s map online or through the Walmart app.

4. Speed up the check-out process

Rather than pushing your cart to the checkout and waiting in line, you may be able to pay as soon as you have what you need. Some stores offer a program called Check Out With Me. It positions Walmart employees around the busiest sections of the store to let you check out on the spot. After your items are scanned, you pay with a credit card, receive your receipt and head on your way.

Check Out With Me is scheduled to be available in every Walmart Supercenter by the time Black Friday gets here.

There’s also Walmart Pay. Walmart’s mobile wallet makes checkout a breeze—and it provides all the security people have come to expect from mobile payment options.

5. Get started right away

If you’re already done creating your holiday shopping list, who says you have to wait? Some deals for Black Friday and Cyber Monday are already available. And when you shop Walmart Online and spend $35 on qualifying orders, you can get free NextDay Delivery.2 Best of all, there’s no membership fee.

And if you choose to pick up orders in-store, you’ll avoid shipping fees altogether—no matter how much you spend. Plus, if you pay online using your Capital One Walmart Rewards Card, you’ll earn 5% cash back.

As the holidays approach, shopping lists often grow long. But Walmart’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals can make it easier to get what you need, both online and in store. Shopping the sales might be an ideal way to save a bundle and make the most of the short holiday shopping season.
