Bad head gasket

12/17/2024

Thankfully covered under warranty, but how the beep does a head gasket go bad with just 22k miles. My 1988 Ford F150 is literally more reliable (still has original engine and transmission) than this 2024 Taos. We did love the car at first. It checked all the boxes in what we were looking for. I was a little hesitant going with a VW in terms of reliably, and I regret not sticking with that hesitancy. I guess I thought that the 2024 would’ve had the kinks worked out.

Great vehicle!

10/20/2024

Great mileage: 33mpg with my driving. The height is just right for me. I can sit down in it without falling or climbing into the seat and get out without jumping to the ground. Built in a Jetta frame, it's the perfect size for me. It's the quality I expect from VW. Smooth transition from gear to gear as it accelerates. The ACC is quick to recognize vehicles as it approaches them and adjust speed without running up too close.

Surprised at MPGs TAOS SE FWD

04/03/2024

It's a great entry level small SUV. The vehicle is heavy, don't expect it to accelerate or decelerate quickly, motor is small, brake rotors are small too, it's not a sports car, so don't drive it like one. Comes in 3 trims levels, I bought the SE model with glass sunroof. Driven on 2 lane highways at posted speed limits, 50 to 65 mph, one foot driving and not hardly using the brake pedal at all, if you drive smoothly on and off the throttle, 44 to 46 MPG tankfuls, are possible, consistently, with good driving techniques, far, far above the rated 36 mpg on the Monrony label. That said, drive it hard, or with poor techniques like most drivers in the USA, slam the doors shut, abuse it like some Korean or Japanese sardine can car, and it will reward you with breakdowns, failures, broken door locks with cracked electrical solder joints, very frequent and expensive brake jobs, as well as heartaches and big financial repair bills. Volkswagens, like all German transportation product, don't take abuse well, or late services, or not using the correct fluids during services. There are some people that just should never own German cars, the service requirements are beyond their limited budgets. I believe the head gaskets blown problem with the earlier year models has been remedied and fixed for good by the vendor that supplied VW the head gaskets for this model engine in 2021 and 2023. Hence why I bought a debugged 2024 model. I recommend it if you want a very frugal to operate small SUV and you can keep your foot out of the 'go fun and fast" pedal, instead treating it utilitarian as something to reliably and frugally get you from point A to point B. I honestly feel, as a long, long, long time VW owner, I got way more in this than I bargained for. Especially in the actual MPG's I am getting in the FWD 8 speed automatic version I bought. I am past the age of being concerned with how a car makes me look, just want efficiency, reliability and at 6'5" a German car that I can still fit into. The Taos fits the bill, nicely
