It is a pretty lawn ornament

11/02/2024

We purchased our one owner 2016 MKX Reserve 3.7L in the fall of 2023. We have since found out that the PTU(transfer case) and RDU(rear differential) on these and nearly every ford AWD are poorly made. Our RDU is out. They are on national back order. I suspect because of all of the failures. I could put used in it. But, how long will that last? And a used part isn’t much less than new($2200 vs $1300). And,I would have to pay labor again when the used on goes out. It will cost $4300 to have the Ford dealer replace it with new. BTW when the PTU goes out, it will be the same issue. Those are also hard to get and the price is about the same. Other than that it is a nice vehicle, when you can drive it. Our 2006 270k 4WD Pilot EX-L hasn’t had any issues like this. And, really still looks nice. Good thing we kept it. NEVER another Ford. Too bad, we like the way they ride and handle. The features are very nice too. Do a YouTube search in the PTU and RDU. Change your fluids often if you have one of these.
