Excellent car

02/28/2025

The CX-5 had been an excellent car over nine years of ownership... I purchased it new. It is dependable, has high utility and is fun to drive. It is as close to the ideal car to own as I've had or can think of. It hasn't been lacking in any of the things that I've wanted to use it for... Drive in snow, pull a small trailer, room for two medium-large dogs in back, etc.

Do not get involved with this car

02/20/2025

I've had my 2016 Mazda CX-5 Touring for almost 2 years now and every day I regret buying it. This was also my first car. 6 months in to owning it the car shut off in the middle of the road while driving. I managed to get the car to roll onto a side street and then had to push it to the side. I had it towed to a Mazda dealer to get it checked out and after a day in the shop they told me it was perfectly fine and couldn't find anything wrong with it. That particular issue hasn't happened again but the other annoyances haven't stopped. Each year like clockwork in December the stem on my right front tire has had a random leak that has caused the tire pressure to decrease rapidly. Multiple mechanics have fixed the stem and told me they have no idea what's causing the stem to rupture in that way. The tire pressure sensor also doesn't turn off on its own once you fill the tires after getting a low tire pressure warning. In the winter I get low tire pressure about once a week even with nobody supposedly being able to find anything wrong with the tires or wheels. I took the car into Mazda for my 100,000 mile maintenance and they supposedly found $4k worth of repairs that need to be done on the car... the car is only worth 8-10k!!! This is not a bad review to the dealership because the actual work they do is really great and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I am currently in the process of finding a way to get rid of this car and get something more reliable after having a new bout of noises. I currently have three different noises happening including a breaking noise, a noise that happens when driving, and a noise that pops up when turning hard to either side. There is also an unpleasant smell thats popped up in the past few days which yes, I'm sure isn't anything I brought into the car. Long story short don't buy this car. It seemed like a reliable affordable option to me when I was buying it as I had only heard great things about Mazda but turned out to be a gigantic headache.
