2014 SubaruXV Crosstrek Limited For Sale

I recently purchased a USED 2015 CROSSTREK and am impressed with the handling , acceleration and comfort. Mine came all the extras with the exception of moon-roof but I really did not need it. The interior is very comfortable and there is plenty of room for 4 adults. Cargo area is a bit limited but it does work for me. The 2015 CROSSTREK looks alot more expensive that it actually is and I love the all wheel drive feature.

I have a 2017 Crosstrek Premium at 91,000 miles. I maintain it well (new spark plugs, brakes, oil changes, Etc). The only thing that needed replaced was a wheel bearing. My only issue is that the headlights burn out constantly. I've learned to keep a spare in my glovebox. Otherwise I've had zero complaints.

What I like about the car. Other people driving an Orange Subie wave to you like you are family. Crash safety. I ran my 2014 into a utility pole (I fell asleep) hitting it at 40+ mph and walked away with minor injuries. The car was a goner. Handling on snow, ice, heavy rain, outstanding! I like this so much I want to keep the car despite the many cons I am about to list. What I don't like about the car. I can't believe more owners aren't mentioning the oil issues. If you own a 2013-2015 you are at very high risk of engine failure or serious oil consumption. I bought mine with around 120,000 miles and now have around 160k. I have had to add a quart of oil at about every other fill up since I bought it. I no longer do oil changes, just the filter every 5k. I probably go through 6-8 quarts of oil in that amount of time so what's the point in changing it? That worked for awhile but now I'm resetting emissions malfunctions because all that burnt oil has to go somewhere and it's fouling the Oxygen sensors. Currently I'm looking into a replacement engine. My 2014 had the same issue with almost the same mileage. According to Subaru forums, many of the 2.0 boxer engines had a piston ring issue between 2013 and 2015. Subaru has handled claims voluntarily, sometimes replacing the engine (has to be done at a Subaru dealership), sometimes handing out vouchers for quarts of oil (seriously), and sometimes telling the owner that it is just normal wear and tear. Supposedly claims were only honored if the car was less than ten years old and under 120K. I didn't fully understand the problem I had until it was way too late. The lack of power. After you drive it awhile you really start to understand it's limitations. It will not get up to speed quickly. Do not pull out into traffic thinking you are going to speed up quickly, you won't. Do not pass in a short window, you won't make it. Do not try to quickly cross a road with approaching traffic, you will cause a crash. So on a positive side it does make you a safer more cautious driver once you fully understand this! Wheel studs. I didn't know this was an issue until I read these reviews. I too have a had to replace wheel studs due to the nut stripping out the stud. This was not an easy fix as the nut had to be cut from the stud with the wheel installed. I thought it was something I did but apparently others have had the same problem. The driver seat. There is a bar or edge or something that is extremely uncomfortable to sit on in the bottom of the seat towards the back. I sit in a somewhat unnatural position to avoid putting pressure on this. Did the Subaru engineers not actually sit in one of these seats after the designed it? The stereo. All of the factory speakers were blown at 120k when I bought it and sound usually only works on the passenger side. The stereo deck looks like it came out of a 2003, not a 2013. If I do replace the engine I will also be upgrading the stereo. The air conditioning. I have owned two of these XV Crosstreks and neither one could keep the very small interior cool on a hot sunny day (which is anything above 80 in Minnesota). The AC compressor had to be replaced on the first one I owned which was almost a $1,000 job. Noise. I am running on all new wheel bearings and it's still noisy as hell. I thought maybe it was the tires (which had a good noise rating) but according to other reviews, it's another symptom. It's really hard to hear my four year old from the back seat. I want to like this car but when I read more of the reviews I see that it has definitely got some problems. It seems like after those first three years of production they worked out some of the kinks and the 2016s and newer are much better cars. Now I have to decide if I trade up or fix up.
