Car Overview
Toyota Highlander
One of the first mid-size crossover SUVs, the Toyota Highlander offered an easygoing, car-like driving experience back when other SUVs were truck-based and short on refinement. Although larger than the original, the current Toyota Highlander is similar in personality. A third-row seat provides seating for up to eight, and most families will find ample cargo capacity. Toyota typically offers both a conventional gasoline engine and a frugal hybrid powertrain. Respectable ground clearance and available all-wheel drive provide plenty of capability on winter days. Other mid-size SUVs offer similar attributes, but the Toyota Highlander's advanced driver assistance systems, high safety scores, and strong reliability record are notable advantages.
