The first Honda Civic was a two-door hatchback. It hit the market in the early 1970s, offering practical transportation in a small, budget-friendly car. Since then, Honda expanded the Civic lineup with coupe, sedan, and wagon body styles alongside a CRX variant. However, only the Civic sedan has lasted since its debut. Honda reintroduced the hatchback to the United States in 2017 with four doors, a turbocharged engine, and between 22.6 and 46.2 cubic feet of cargo space. One year later, Honda added the performance-tuned Civic Type R hatchback. The redesigned Civic arrived in 2022 with sedan styles and a hatchback including four doors, more cargo room, and an optional turbocharged engine. A redesigned Civic Type R rejoined the lineup in 2023.
