What's New for the 2026 Toyota Corolla
The 2026 Toyota Corolla receives a few important changes this year. The 2026 Corolla sedan includes a standard digital driver display, and both the sedan and hatchback add a standard blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert. The FX Edition trim level departs the sedan lineup, but is now available for the Corolla hatchback. Toyota slims the GR Corolla lineup to a base model and a Premium Plus trim level. The racy GR also benefits from structural, engineering, and audio system enhancements.
As one of the world's bestselling vehicles and now in its 12th generation, the 2026 Corolla remains relevant by offering a variety of body styles and powertrains, including gasoline, hybrid, and performance engines. From budget-priced to track-boosted, there's a Toyota Corolla to meet almost any driver's needs.

2026 Toyota Corolla Trim Levels
The Toyota Corolla is a compact car available in sedan and hatchback body styles equipped with front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). Powertrains range from a standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 169 horsepower to a turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine capable of 300 horsepower.
All Corolla trim levels seat five occupants and vary by body style. The 2026 Corolla sedan is available in six trims: LE, Hybrid LE, SE, Hybrid SE, XSE, and Hybrid XLE. The hatchback variant is offered in SE, FX, and XSE trims. The GR Corolla is a performance version of the hatchback and is available in base and Premium Plus trim. Highlights of each trim level are as follows:
- LEÂ Â Â
The entry-level Corolla LE is available only as a sedan. It has a 169-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a continuously variable transmission (CVT), FWD, and 16-inch steel wheels. The interior features cloth upholstery, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and automatic climate control. Drivers face a 7.0-inch digital instrumentation panel, and the LE has an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
- Hybrid LE
The Hybrid LE matches the features of its gasoline-only counterpart except for its drivetrain. Under the hood is a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine coupled with a 70-kilowatt (kW) electric motor. When optioned with AWD, the Hybrid LE adds a 30-kW electric motor to the rear axle. The combined output is 138 horsepower, and the Corolla Hybrid also features a CVT specifically tuned for its powertrain.
- SE
On the sedan, the SE adds 18-inch alloy wheels, a chrome-tipped exhaust, and color-keyed heated outside mirrors. Cabin upgrades include sport fabric seats and a leather-trimmed steering wheel. The SE hatchback offers slightly different features, including 16-inch alloy wheels, black heated exterior mirrors, a 4.2-inch digital driver display, and wireless device charging.
- FX Edition
Exclusively available for the Corolla hatchback, the FX Edition adds 18-inch gloss-white alloy wheels, blackout badging, and a black rear wing. In the cabin, you'll find Sport Touring seats with contrast stitching, heated front seats, and a 7.0-inch digital driver display.
- Hybrid SE
Like the Hybrid LE, the Hybrid SE is outfitted similarly to its non-hybrid counterpart, except for an electrified powertrain and an AWD option.
- XSE
As the top trim level for gas-only non-performance Corolla models, the XSE sedan adds a rear spoiler, a power sunroof, SofTex synthetic-leather upholstery, heated front seats, and paddle shifters. On the tech front, upgrades include a 12.3-inch digital driver display and a 10.5-inch center touchscreen. The XSE hatchback features LED fog lights, 18-inch graphite-colored alloy wheels, SofTex seat trim, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a premium eight-speaker JBL audio system.
- Hybrid XLE
Standard features of the Hybrid XLE include 16-inch alloy wheels, a power sunroof, SofTex-trimmed upholstery, heated front seats, a 12.3-inch digital driver display, and a 10.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Hybrid XLE is not available with AWD.
- GR
The hatchback-only GR is the punchiest of the Corolla lineup thanks to a turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Transmission choices include a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters, and the GR comes only with AWD.
Standard features include gloss-black 18-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, a triple-outlet exhaust system with brushed stainless steel tips, and gloss-black exterior accents. Inside, the GR has synthetic-leather sport seats with gray stitching, dual-zone climate control, and GR-exclusive detailing. Tech features include a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel, an 8.0-inch center touchscreen, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
- GR Premium Plus
The GR Premium Plus adds matte-black 18-inch alloy wheels, a carbon-fiber roof, and a subradiator to the exterior. Interior details include red contrast stitching, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a nine-speaker JBL premium audio system.

2026 Toyota Corolla Cargo Capacity
According to Toyota, the 2026 Corolla sedan offers 13.1 cubic-feet of cargo space behind its 60/40 split-folding rear seats. Hatchbacks have 17.8 cu-ft, which increases to 23 cu-ft if the spare tire is replaced with a tire-repair kit. The GR Corolla matches the hatch's 17.8 cu-ft measurement. Toyota declines to offer a measurement for the hatchbacks with the rear seat folded down.
2026 Toyota Corolla Fuel Economy
The 2026 Toyota Corolla returns up to 35 mpg in combined city and highway driving for both the sedan and hatchback, per EPA estimates. The sedan's available hybrid powertrain is more fuel-efficient, delivering up to 50 mpg combined. With AWD, the hybrid's combined rating drops to 48 mpg. On the opposite end of the efficiency scale, the powerful GR Corolla can only muster 22 mpg to 24 mpg combined, depending on the transmission.

2026 Toyota Corolla Safety Ratings and Features
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published crash-test ratings for the Corolla hatchback but not for the sedan. The hatchback earned a five-star overall safety rating, the NHTSA's highest. That rating does not apply to the GR Corolla hatchback.
As of publication, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) had not completed its testing of the 2026 Corolla models. The sedan and hatchback each earned the top grade of "Good" in the small overlap frontal-impact test, while the hatch notched an "Acceptable" rating in the updated side-impact assessment. In evaluations of vehicle systems unrelated to crash testing, both versions of the Corolla earn high marks.
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on all 2026 Corolla models. This suite of advanced driver-assistance systems includes automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, road sign assist, and a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection. For 2026, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are newly standard.
Additional safety is available through Safety Connect, a Wi-Fi-dependent connected-services bundle that includes emergency assistance, roadside assistance, automatic collision notification, and a stolen-vehicle locator. A five-year trial to the service is included before a subscription is required.
