What's New for the 2026 Toyota Camry

After a redesign for the 2025 model year, the Toyota Camry sedan gets a new Nightshade Edition trim level for 2026. It's similar to the SE trim level but has 19-inch wheels; various exterior trim pieces painted Midnight Black Metallic; and is available only in the colors Ice Cap, Supersonic Red, and Midnight Black Metallic. Other 2026 Camry changes include a new paint called Dark Cosmos for the SE, XLE, and XSE grades. Toyota describes it as a "sultry, hazy blue color."

Otherwise, the Camry carries over, which is no bad thing. Exclusively available as a hybrid, the Camry boasts a spacious interior and a variety of trim levels and drivetrain options that help it stand out from the dwindling number of competitors in the midsize-sedan segment.

Pros

  • Fuel-efficient and powerful hybrid powertrain
  • Diverse selection of trim levels

Cons

  • Slightly smaller trunk space than some rivals
  • Base model is pricier than those of competitors

2026 Toyota Camry Trim Levels

The 2026 Toyota Camry is a five-person midsize sedan that comes only with a hybrid powertrain. In standard front-wheel-drive (FWD) form, it produces a total of 225 horsepower through a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors. With available all-wheel drive (AWD) and a third electric motor, its net horsepower is 232.

You can think of the Camry trim level lineup as having two branches: The LE and XLE have softer suspensions, while the SE, Nightshade, and XSE have a suspension setup tuned for more responsive handling. The two branches also differ in grille design and exterior and interior trim, resulting in distinct-looking Camrys.

  • LE

The base LE comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and heated mirrors. Inside, there's dual-zone automatic climate control, cloth upholstery, a 7.0-inch digital instrument panel, and a wireless phone charger. Infotainment equipment includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

  • SE

The Camry SE features distinct exterior styling and suspension components, as well as 18-inch wheels. Inside, there's a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, Toyota's SofTex simulated-leather upholstery, and an eight-way power driver's seat.

  • Nightshade Edition

The Nightshade Edition adds 19-inch wheels and various exterior trim pieces painted metallic black.

  • XLE

The XLE adds to the LE's standard features with its own 18-inch wheel design, upgraded headlights and taillights, and a proximity entry system. On the inside, there are heated front seats, a mix of leather and microfiber upholstery, an eight-way power front-passenger seat, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. Infotainment features include a 12.3-inch touchscreen and one-year trial subscriptions to Drive Connect (Toyota's cloud-based integrated navigation and voice controls) and Remote Connect (app-based remote vehicle controls and services).

  • XSE

The XSE combines the SE's looks and ride feel with many of the XLE's added creature comforts and technology features. It also adds a trim-specific 19-inch wheel design and full-leather upholstery.

2026 Toyota Camry Cargo Capacity

The 2026 Toyota Camry's trunk measures 15.1 cubic-feet and offers passive (key-in-pocket) entry. There is a 60/40-split rear seatback to increase utility when needed.

2026 Toyota Camry Fuel Economy

The 2026 Camry lineup's most fuel-efficient trim is the FWD LE, which returns an EPA-estimated 51 mpg in combined city and highway driving. The SE, XLE, and XSE trims with FWD return 46 mpg.

With AWD, the Camry LE returns 50 mpg, the SE and XLE return 46 mpg, and the XSE returns 43 mpg. As of publication, the EPA had not released fuel-economy information for the Camry Nightshade Edition.

2026 Toyota Camry Safety Ratings and Features

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2026 Toyota Camry five out of five stars for overall safety. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the 2026 Camry a Top Safety Pick+ for calendar year 2025. As of publication, the IIHS had not determined if that rating remained valid for calendar year 2026.

Every 2026 Camry comes with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of advanced driver-assistance functions. These include forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control with lane-centering steering assist.

Toyota's Proactive Driving Assist is also standard. It uses the car's camera and radar to automatically provide braking and steering assistance in certain situations. The Camry also comes standard with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Toyota's Safe Exit Alert. The Premium Plus package, available only on the XLE and XSE, adds front cross-traffic warning, reverse and rear cross-traffic automatic braking, front and rear parking sensors, and a driver-monitor camera. It also includes Traffic Jam Assist, which enables hands-free driving on controlled-access highways at speeds below 25 mph.
