What's New for the 2026 Kia K4

Kia expands the 2026 K4 lineup with a new hatchback variant. It joins the existing K4 sedan, which debuted as an all-new compact car model for 2025. This year, the K4 sedan receives a few changes, including heated front seats available on the EX trim level and a heated steering wheel on the GT-Line. Both of those trims are now available with Kia's SynTex artificial leather.

The K4 may wear a new moniker for Kia, but the automaker's compact-car heritage runs several decades deep. The Sephia came in the 1990s, followed by the Spectra, followed by the Forte, and now the K4. Although this vehicle segment is shrinking, Kia's version is a big seller. Last year, the outgoing Forte and incoming K4 were among the brand's most popular vehicles.

Pros

  • Choice of sedan or hatchback body style
  • Long list of standard safety features

Cons

  • No all-wheel-drive option
  • A hybrid is unavailable

2026 Kia K4 Trim Levels

With seating for five, the 2026 Kia K4 is available in four-door sedan and five-door hatchback body styles. Depending on which version you choose, there are five trim levels: LX (sedan only), LXS (sedan only), EX, GT-Line, and GT-Line Turbo.

The sedan and hatchback share a standard powertrain: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a continuously variable transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD). It generates 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque.

A turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission and FWD is available, but only on the top GT-Line Turbo trim level. This powertrain produces 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive (AWD) is not available on the Kia K4. The highlights of each trim level are as follows:

  • LX

The base K4 LX sedan is available in just three colors: black, white, and gray. The LX features 16-inch steel wheels and LED headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights. Inside, there's cloth upholstery, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, and four USB-C ports.

  • LXS

Next up is the K4 LXS sedan, which unlocks an exterior color palette beyond the basics. Also added are 16-inch dark gray alloy wheels, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, and multiple drive modes.

  • EX

The EX, which is available in sedan and hatchback configurations, upgrades its exterior with 17-inch black wheels. Inside, there are heated front seats covered in SynTex artificial leather. Also standard is dual-zone climate control and wireless charging. For the EX hatchback, there's a rear center armrest with cupholders.

  • GT-Line

For a sporty look and feel, the GT-Line adds 18-inch black and machine-finished alloy wheels, gloss-black exterior trim, and a sport-tuned suspension. In the cabin, there's a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat with power lumbar and a SynTex-covered sport steering wheel with paddle shifters. In GT-Line form, the sedan model gets the rear center armrest with cupholders, too.

  • GT-Line Turbo

The top-of-the-line GT-Line Turbo receives 18-inch black-finish alloy wheels, LED projector-type headlights, and LED fog lights. Inside, there are rear air conditioning vents and sound-absorbing windshield glass. Upgraded tech includes a 12.3-inch digital driver display, built-in navigation, an AI voice assistant, and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system.

2026 Kia K4 Cargo Capacity

According to Kia, the K4 sedan offers 14.6 cubic-feet of trunk space. When opting for the K4 hatchback, cargo space measures 22.2 cu-ft behind the back seat and up to 59.3 cu-ft with those seats folded down.

2026 Kia K4 Fuel Economy

Official EPA fuel economy estimates say you can expect 33 mpg in combined city and highway driving with a K4 sedan equipped with the standard engine. In K4 hatchbacks with that engine, the combined fuel economy drops to up to 30 mpg. The GT-Line Turbo models are estimated to return 28 mpg combined, regardless of body style.

2026 Kia K4 Safety Ratings and Features

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2026 Kia K4 sedan and hatchback five-star overall safety ratings for both models, the highest possible. Results from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) are more comprehensive for the sedan, which earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating for the 2026 calendar year. As of publication, the new-for-2026 hatchback had earned a mix of "Good" and "Acceptable" ratings for its ability to mitigate or avoid collisions.

Every 2026 K4 comes standard with advanced driver-assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, driver-attention warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on all K4s except the base LX sedan.

Additional safety features are available for the GT-Line and GT-Line Turbo models. The GT-Line Premium Package adds a semi-autonomous hands-on highway driver-assistance system called Highway Driving Assist (HDA). It pairs adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assist to partially take control of the K4.

The top trim level offers the GT-Line Turbo Technology Package. It adds an upgraded version of HDA, blind-spot collision-avoidance steering assist, a camera-based Blind-Spot View Monitor, a surround-view camera, and an enhanced automatic emergency braking system with intersection assist and evasive-steering assist.
