What's New for the 2026 Honda Civic

For 2026, the Honda Civic is largely unchanged. The Civic is Honda's longest-running model, and a perennial award winner. It was redesigned for the 2022 model year and received minor styling updates for 2025, when a Civic Hybrid variant joined the lineup.

Pros

  • Engine lineup includes high-performance options
  • Choice of sedan or hatchback body styles
  • Hybrid option available

Cons

  • Base model is less powerful than some rivals
  • All-wheel drive unavailable
  • The top-spec infotainment screen is small compared with competitors

2026 Honda Civic Trim Levels

The 2026 Civic is available in two body styles: a sedan and a hatchback. Hybrid powertrains are available for both versions. Honda offers four trim levels: LX, Sport, Sport Hybrid, and Sport Touring Hybrid. The Civic Si and Civic Type R exist outside Honda's standard trim hierarchy. Both models are intended for driving enthusiasts and, aside from exterior finishes, offer few customization options.

The base powertrain pairs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 150 horsepower with a continuously variable transmission. Hybrid models feature Honda's unique Two-Motor Hybrid powertrain delivering 200 horsepower.

The Civic Si is equipped with a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 200 horsepower, while the Type R gets a 315-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The Si and Type R are available only with a six-speed manual transmission. All Civics are front-wheel drive.

  • LX

This is the basic version of the Civic. The LX comes with 16-inch steel wheels, LED headlights, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and a four-speaker stereo.

  • Sport

The Sport gets some nice upgrades over the LX, including 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, and a remote engine start system. Inside, comforts include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, ambient lighting, and an eight-speaker stereo setup.

  • Sport Hybrid

The Sport Hybrid has all the upgrades of the Sport, plus heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a sunroof, and acoustic windshield glass to help keep the cabin quiet.

  • Sport Touring Hybrid

The Sport Touring is the most luxurious version of the Civic. In addition to leather seats, it includes a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Google built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a wireless smartphone charger, and a 12-speaker Bose stereo.

  • Si

The Civic Si is available only as a sedan, and features upgraded brakes and suspension components, along with a limited-slip differential. While the drivetrain and performance upgrades are specific to the Si, this model is equipped similarly to the Sport Touring Hybrid but with sportier seats.

  • Type R

The Type R is the hardcore performance version of the Civic hatchback. The list of performance equipment is extensive, and includes an adaptive suspension system, Brembo brakes, an active exhaust, and 19-inch wheels wrapped in summer tires. Flared fenders and a large rear wing visually distinguish the Type R from other Civics, while the interior is fitted with sport seats and red accents.

2026 Honda Civic Cargo Capacity

In sedan form, both the standard Civic and the hybrid version will hold up to 14.8 cubic-feet of cargo in the trunk. The Si sedan will accommodate 14.1 cu-ft.

Opt for the hatchback, and cargo capacity increases to 24.5 cu-ft. This is true for the standard, Civic Hybrid, and Type R versions, and reflects the space available with the rear seats up. Honda does not publish a measurement with the rear seats folded down, but as shown in the photo above, doing so adds significantly more cargo space.

2026 Honda Civic Fuel Economy

The most efficient version of the 2026 Honda Civic is the hybrid, with an EPA-estimated fuel-economy rating of 49 mpg in combined city and highway driving. At 48 mpg combined, the hybrid hatchback is almost as thrifty.

The most efficient version of the standard Civic is EPA-rated at 36 mpg combined, while the standard hatchback is rated at 34 mpg combined. The manual-only Civic Si is EPA-rated at 31 mpg combined.

At the time of publication, fuel economy ratings for the 2026 Type R were not posted on the EPA website. Honda claims it will get 24 mpg in combined driving.

2026 Honda Civic Safety Ratings and Features

All versions of the 2026 Honda Civic tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) earned a safety rating of five out of a possible five stars. No safety ratings were available for the 2026 Civic Type R as of publication.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2026 Honda Civic Sedan and Hatchback mostly "Good" and "Acceptable" ratings, though the hatchback's seat belt reminders were rated "Marginal."

All 2026 Honda Civics come standard with Honda Sensing, a suite of driver aids that includes automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on all but the base LX trim level.
