2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

The 2026 Silverado 2500 HD carries over with only minor changes from 2025. There are two new colors, Polar White and White Sands, and two new 20-inch wheel designs.

The Silverado 2500 HD is the lighter-duty version of the two heavy-duty trucks in Chevrolet's lineup, the other being the Silverado 3500 HD. Designed for heavy towing and hauling, the 2500 HD is available in entry-level trims for getting the job done, with luxury-leaning features that deliver a plush interior, and with serious off-road hardware that can seemingly tackle any terrain. The Silverado offers a towing-optimized camera system with up to 14 views, including one that simulates a direct view through your trailer.

2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Trim Levels

The Silverado 2500 is the middle man of the Silverado lineup, with considerably more capability than the 1500 but less than the 3500 HD. It can seat up to six people when properly configured.

It's offered with two engines, three cab configurations — regular, extended (double cab), and crew, and two bed lengths — standard and long. A 6.6-liter gas V8 good for 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque is the standard engine, and a 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V8 producing 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque is the upgraded engine. Both engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) are available.

Chevrolet offers the Silverado 2500 HD in six trim levels: WT, Custom, LT, LTZ, ZR2, and High Country. Note that not every trim is available with every cab, bed, and drive configuration.

The Work Truck trim is exactly what it sounds like: A base-level model that offers little flair but gets the job done with the essentials. The WT comes with 17-inch wheels, an auto-locking rear differential, trailering equipment (a 2.5-inch receiver, seven-pin electrical connector, and hitch guidance), an integrated trailer brake controller, and four-wheel disc brakes. Inside, you can choose between vinyl and cloth seats. There's a 7.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, as well as a six-speaker audio system. Push-button start and keyless entry are also included.

Custom

The Custom trim adds 20-inch wheels and all-terrain tires as well as gloss-black or body-color bumpers. This trim also includes extendable, heated, power-adjustable rearview trailering mirrors, interior carpeting, and cloth seats.

The LT adds chrome bumpers, body-color door handles, and a household-style power outlet in the bed. There's also an EZ-lift Tailgate. Inside is the biggest change, however. A 12.3-inch digital driver display replaces the standard gauges in lower trims, and a 13.4-inch touchscreen upgrades the infotainment with a Google built-in operating system that includes Google Maps and Google Assistant.

The LTZ adds 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires plus LED headlights, LED taillights, and rain-sensing wipers. The LTZ is the first trim in the lineup to add a 4WD transfer case that automatically engages the front axle when it detects wheel slip. Ten-way adjustable leather seats with a memory function for the driver's side upgrade the interior. Heated and ventilated front outboard seats and a heated steering wheel are also included. The LTZ also adds keyless start and remote start capability.

The ZR2 is the off-road model and features a lifted suspension with high-performance off-road dampers. It also adds 18-inch mud-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, and a spray-on bedliner. The Multi-Flex tailgate enhances bed loading and unloading. Inside, there's a seven-speaker Bose audio system and a head-up display. Adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree camera are also included.

High Country

With 20-inch wheels, the High Country sits atop the Silverado 2500 HD lineup. It offers a powered tailgate, heated rear seats, and a wireless phone charger. The High Country also adds driver-assistance features, including front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control.

2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Payload and Towing

A Silverado 2500 HD regular-cab long-bed with RWD can tow more than 22,000 pounds when properly equipped. Every other configuration of this truck has a lower tow rating. The 2500 HD is available only in a single-rear-wheel configuration.

A Silverado 2500 HD regular-cab with 4WD offers a maximum payload rating of 4,033 pounds. Every other configuration of this truck carries less.

2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Fuel Economy

The EPA doesn't rate heavy-duty trucks for fuel economy. We have reviewed a 2025 Silverado 2500 HD with LT Trail Boss trim and the optional Duramax turbodiesel engine, which averaged 14 to 15 mpg, whether towing or not.

As of the time of publication, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) had not published safety ratings for the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD.

Every Silverado 2500 HD comes equipped with forward-collision warning with automatic braking and a lane-departure warning system. Automatic high-beam headlights and GM's Teen Driver feature, which activates certain safety systems when a teen is driving, are also included. Optional features, some of which are standard on upper trims, include adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, and rear cross-traffic alert. GM's Safety Alert seat, which vibrates to indicate a potential collision, is also available.
