Pro Power Onboard for Gas, Hybrid, and EV
The 2.0-kW Pro Power Onboard system is available as part of an option package on the F-150 XLT SuperCrew trim and above when equipped with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. It comes standard on the Platinum trim with that engine.
The more powerful 2.4-kW system is standard on the XLT SuperCrew when paired with the PowerBoost hybrid powertrain, which delivers 430 horsepower and includes four-wheel drive. A version of the system with up to 7.2 kW is available for an additional $850, and the more luxurious Lariat model offers the same choices as the XLT. The Platinum trim with the hybrid powertrain includes the 7.2-kW system as standard.
The F-150 Lightning electric pickup's base model comes standard with a 2.4-kW system. Only the Lightning offers an upgrade to a 9.6-kW Pro Power Onboard system.
Pro Power Onboard Powers a Wide Range of Tools
The 2.0-kW Pro Power version on gas-only models includes two 120-volt outlets in the bed, as does the 2.4-kW version on hybrid-powered models; the 7.2-kW system provides four outlets.
Pro Power Onboard can help support a range of tools appliances. If you're tailgating a football game, for example, the 2.0-kW system can power an electric heater, TV, portable speakers, mini fridge, and blender, according to Ford.
The 2.4-kW system will let you power an 8.0-inch circular saw, a 0.5-hp air compressor, and a 200-watt battery charger. With the 7.2-kW option, you can fire up a TIG welder, plasma cutter, and other metalworking tools.
The F-150 Lightning's standard 2.4-kW system provides two 120-volt outlets in the bed plus four 120-volt outlets and two USB charging ports in the front trunk, or frunk. The 9.6-kW upgraded system turns the Lightning into a mobile powerplant, adding two more 120-volt outlets in the cabin and one 240-volt in the bed. You could power a small construction site with it.
All systems allow you to monitor power usage through the dashboard center screen or the FordPass smartphone app. Likewise, they all allow you to charge battery-operated tools and other devices while driving.
Your Pro Power Onboard Choice Depends on Truck Usage
The 2.0-kW Pro Power Onboard system available on gas-only F-150 models and the 2.4-kW version standard with the hybrid powertrain will be sufficient for many outdoor electrical needs.
If you use your truck for work or epic weekend play, the 7.2-kW upgrade likely makes more sense. We'd say the same for the F-150 Lightning's 9.6-kW option.
The Lightning also offers Home Backup Power, a separate feature that allows you to supply emergency power to your home during a power outage. Note, however, that the system requires the purchase of additional hardware through Ford.
